The worst college football stadium?
An earlier post asks, What is the best college football stadium? Just wondering...your thoughts (opinion) of the least favorite or worst stadium?

Re: The worst college football stadium?
Not even a question:
UNIVERSITY FIELD AT UALBANY.
It may be one of the worst high school stadia in the country; well, slight exaggeration.
Those "stands"...are wooden benches attached to the Phys Ed builidng steps. (main tenant is our Volleyball team).
The visiting stands...are rusted out bleachers...no bullshit.

Re: The worst college football stadium?
Wofford's Gibbs Stadium is small, ho-hum, and mundane, but was made a lot better by an awesome new video board. I guess that great board keeps our stadium from being one of the worst in FCS.
Others I have been to that aren't too swift:
Charleston Southern
Presbyterian
Gardner-Webb

Yeah, that place is doodoo. But at least it's got a shit-ton of bars/restaurants within walking distance. I actually enjoy going to lacrosse games there just for that reason.JSU02 wrote:How could anyone forget Georgetown's Multi Sport field?

Georgetown's "Stadium" isn't as bad as pictures make it out to be. Yeah, it bad compared to a lot of schools, but it's certainly not worst. It's actually a charming little place, and when it's packed, it's gotta a very festive atmosphere to it.
My vote is for Jacksonville's Milne Field:

Are you effing serious? They play college football there?? Serious, the local NAIA school (Black Hills State) has a nicer stadium than that. Hell, most of the local small-town high schools have a nicer stadium.∞∞∞ wrote:Georgetown's "Stadium" isn't as bad as pictures make it out to be. Montana's Dornblaser Field was pretty bad back in the day (it's undergone improvement since then and not hosts track and field events). Before Wa-Griz was built, rumor has it that the coaches didn't even let recruits see Dornblaser for fear that it would scare them off.

Re: The worst college football stadium?
To be fair, that picture was taken before Jacksonville's "renovations" since I couldn't find any. But I did some more research and found newer pics. Apparently they added FieldTurf and a new scoreboard. However, notice that Jacksonville doesn't have any stands. Instead, they just plopped some metal benches on the hills and called it a day. The press box is a shack.

I was going to nominate Long Beach Veterans Memorial Stadium, which hosted the now-defunct LBSU program and currently the LBCC team. It's so bad that the IWFL's California Quake has moved to a HS in Downey. Stands on one side only, and sunburns galore during day games.
But after seeing that Jacksonville field, that gets my vote. Ugh!!!

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: The worst college football stadium?
At this point, I think we have to wonder what the definition of a "stadium" is. Not sure that patch of land counts.
I can't believe they play D-I football there.

Funny how the school in the big Jacksonville has such a paltry stadium while the school in the tiny Jacksonville has the nice one.

Re: The worst college football stadium?
nova's is pretty bad. It's a track stadium, and an old one at that. Cramped seating, the stands aren't very steep, and there's a decided lack of enough bathrooms in that place, let alone the high school-type concession stands they have. Luckily, it's rarely half-filled, because once you get more than 8k people in there the place is just a dump because of those things.

My family has a patch of field along a muddy river that could probably make a better 'stadium' than that.GrizFanStuckInUtah wrote:∞∞∞ wrote:Georgetown's "Stadium" isn't as bad as pictures make it out to be. Of course, judging by the level of commitment shown in that picture, the school probably wouldn't want to pay enough to displace the beet field currently there.
Thread-killer extraordinaire.

Re: The worst college football stadium?
to be honest i am just Happy Indiana State's Memorial Stadium isn't involved in this conversation LOL...Our stadium is terrible as most would say, it's nowhere near the degree of terribleness that these other schools have shown but it's pretty bad, we are improving it as of late tho with video boards, new locker rooms, actually having visiting locker rooms now lol...it's a great improvement...

I've been there three times and none of the times did I find anything "festive" about it. It really felt like a low level HS game.∞∞∞ wrote:It's actually a charming little place, and when it's packed, it's gotta a very festive atmosphere to it.

ASU has played Jacksonville twice, and both games you can tell those kids know how to play. Jacksonville is non-schooly, but Division I football has to be better than that crap.

Old Dominion should also be on the list. Looks like it's right out of the 40's.
Re: The worst college football stadium?
I watched this year's Delaware lax game on TV down there and the trim in the stands was pretty sweet. That's festive enough for me.89Hen wrote:I've been there three times and none of the times did I find anything "festive" about it.
