Philly losing. I know they have passionate fans, but they also are some of the worst fans for any sport.
How so. Explain what makes Philly fans amoung the worst in sports.
Is it the fact that the Phillies always sell out? I guess Atlanta and Tampa fans are better because they stay home even in the middle of a playoff race.
Is it the fact that in 2008, after the city won it's first title in 25 years, there were no riots.
Is it the standing ovation they gave McNabb last week, after most of the national media incorrectly predicted that Philly fans would boo him?
Philly fans are amoung the best in sports, the only people who say otherwise don't know what they are talking about.

If newspaper headlines are the best you've got I suggest you look a little north of Phila. Nobody has "classier" headlines than the New York Post. I guess by your standard New York fans are the worst in sports.
The violent acts that were occurring at Veterans Stadium were continuing to increase, thus, leaving Philadelphia no choice but to install a court, judge and jail inside the stadium.
A courtroom was built into the stadium where unruly fans were taken for judgment and sentencing after committing crimes at Veterans Stadium.
The penalties for the crime forced offenders to give up season tickets, pay a $400 fine and sit in jail for the rest of the game.
On Oct. 11, 1999, Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin suffered a career-ending neck injury at Veterans Stadium against the Philadelphia Eagles.
While Irvin lay motionless on the ground, Eagles fan cheered.
While medical staff attended to the Hall-of-famer and former first round draft pick, the cheers simply got louder.
The injury occurred when Irvin landed awkwardly on his head after catching a pass from fellow Hall of Famer Troy Aikman in the first quarter.
It is reported that many fans in attendance cheered when they realized Irvin was hurt, and again when paramedics wheeled a stretcher onto the field.
The Eagles, who haven't won an NFL championship since 1960, should be embarrassed for having fans that are capable of this type of behavior. Irvin single-handedly destroyed the Eagles during his 10-year career, and Eagle fans thought this was the only way of returning the favor.
Only Eagle fans would think cheering for injured player is an acceptable idea.
One guy throws up on a cop and that labels the entire fan base. At least nobody ran onto the field to attack an umpire like they did in Chicao a few years ago. At least nobody ran onto the field to burn an American flag like they did in LA many years ago. At least they didn't have to delay the game and bring out police in riot gear like they did in Yankee Stadium back in 2004. Every city has it's share of nitwits, Philly included, it doesn't make Philly any worse than any other city.

They aren't better either.
In terms of behavior you are probably right, but Philly fans attend games, which is more than many cities can say.

Most people have never been to Philly, or if they have, haven't been here long enough to really know the fanbase. Most of what people know about Philly fans they hear from the national media and the national media is composed of lazy idiots who talk alot even though they don't know what they are talking about.
All you need to do is look back at the week leading up to Donovan McNabb's return. All week long I heard one person after another talk about about how bad Philly fans are because they are going to boo McNabb when he is introduced. I knew that McNabb was going to get a standing ovation and I was right, the national media couldn't have been more wrong.
Philly fans threw snow balls at Santa Clause over 40 years ago and that is what the national media falls back on when they talk about Philly fans.

Makes for a great soundbite, doesn't it? Too bad the national media doesn't give you the whole story. Again.
The real story is that Angelo Cataldi, the sensational morning host on 610 WIP Philadelphia, organized a busload of fans he termed the "Dirty 30" to go up to New York and generally raise hell at that draft, and of course they did. Cataldi had been railing for weeks that the Eagles must take Ricky Williams, but indications were that they would not. He knew he could generate ratings for himself by whipping up these 30 idiots. I have stood under a tent in front of Cataldi with most of them at one time or another at Eagles pregame shows, so I can confirm first hand that they are not representative of the fanbase as a whole. They were hand picked for Cataldi's purposes. It was showbiz.
As 86 just noted, every city and every franchise has a nut or two in their ranks.
Back on topic, the Phillies absolutely smoked the Giants tonight. Little Roy was dominating and even scored a run after running through a stop sign. Rollins with the huge 3-RBI double to put it away.
On to San Fran for a true day game (1pm local, 4pm eastern) on Tuesday.
I'd have to admit to be a "typical' media Philly fan. I was ecstatic when they took out Irvin, laughed when they pummled santa, said WTF when they drafted Mcnabb but...I also felt a tug of the heart when McNabb came back to Philly this year....when they bring back the "old-timers". I also get angry when they trade good players (insert any of numerous guys the past 3-4 years) that still have what it takes and they come back to haunt us. I cut my football teeth watching the Eagles and my baseball knowledge with the Phillies
