Now, that depends on where you live...

In states like Massachusetts, California, and New York...the government can deny a permit for almost any reasons...those states are known as "may issue" permit states...

Here in Virginia, and I believe Montana, they are "shall issue" states...unless you are legally prohibited from having a permit (a felon, domestic violence conviction, etc) you shall be issued a permit if you apply and complete the required traiing...

In Arizona, Vermont and Utah, they have Constitutional Carry...anyone can carry because its in the Constitution...

Hopefully, every state will be there soon...

I know quite a few folks with a concealed carry permit and I have 2 friends who are instructors. In Delaware one must take and pass the course, spend time on a range demonstrating competence, and pass a background check.

I'm not sure what the problem is of approving a permit for DEMONSTRABLE law abiding citizens.

I know women who have the concealed carry permit and all are under 130 lbs yet this makes them the equal of a Cap'n Cat or DIB.

I don't bitch about the government doing things. I like it when you see a well run community effort to get things done. If the government wasn't doing a pretty damn good job sorting out who does and does not get a CC then I am sure that would be borne out by the stats. Since the stats show that the government(s) are doing an overwhelmingly GOOD job on this subject then I have absolutely nothing to complain about on it.

In the state of Iowa the process is similar to this:
Apply
Meet with the county sheriff, and they determine if you are even able to take the class
Take the class
Pass a shooting test



Every county has a different sheriff, and every sheriff is different with how strict they are with CCP's.

In just about any jurisdiction, to "brandish" a weapon is a crime...I would not recommend trying to tackle a person doing it, but would rather call 9-1-1 and let the police handle it and you be the good witness...but if tackling the person can be done safely...go for it...just remember, this idiot can still discharge the weapon during your tackle, and you are now responsible for any harm along with the idiot...

And, in most states, even licensed people are not allowed to carry on college campuses or at large gatherings in and around stadiums...

They have their guns to protect themselves and other innocent people from the tragedies that outlaws inflict. I would look at your actions as heroic if successful, and tragic in unsuccessful. In Utah it is legal to keep it in your vehicle without a permit now, but that was only recently. Most places in Utah it is still legal to open carry, but that is highly discouraged. If you get any alcoholic citation, with or without a wepon being involved, they will revoke your CWP. So simply being cited for public intoxiation or a DUI/DWI will ge tit revoked and they do revoke a lot of them that way, as they should.
