Btw...we don't give up many sacks we are 14th in the nation in sacks allowed, in .83 per game, in fact we are second in the conference behind the NDSU Bison...

The 2010 Bison are difficult to read, a great game followed by a let down, then a great quarter followed by a bad one. Flip a coin, even in Fargo.dgreenwell3 wrote:Btw...we don't give up many sacks we are 14th in the nation in sacks allowed, in .83 per game, in fact we are second in the conference behind the NDSU Bison...
Don't forget to stop by the Marriott if you have time.

Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
Once again, like last week, its quiet around the Fabulous Fargo Dome. Tomorrow is day before game day. An important day in NDSU football. Its the last day of practice for one thing. The last time they have to work together before they take the field on Saturday as a team, in the name of NDSU and THE BISON.
Im sure they will want to touch on the high points. The fundamentals are the most important, but tomorrow is a little different. The drills are behind us. Tomorrow is for the finesse, the technique, the things that distinguish the average player from the champion. Tomorrow the focus is on the study of the game. That is what "The College of Football" is all about at NDSU.
More than likely the game plan will be introduced on a "need-to-know" basis. The team will see it Saturday morning as a group and everyone will be familiar and comfortable with their role.
Saturday they see how it all fits. They will look at play lists, defensive sets, they will understand the strategy and the tactics will be laid out. The skills they have all practiced and mastered will be applied to the execution of those tactics in the service of the strategy. We wlll see on Saturday how productive and focused those practices were.
Here are some personnel notes:
RB
INS: Darrius Gates SR #7 MVFC 83/gm
NDSU: NDSU has a better set of backs. McNorton is all that Darrius is. Add Voightlander and Sigers, thats all you Need Saturday. Derrick Lang is a young recruit thats starting to make some noise.
Passing
INS: Ronnie Fouch JR #4 MVFC 204/game #2 in league for pass efficiency.
NDAC: Mohler #5 195/game Jose has a better completion avg but fewer TDs and more INTs. Jose is #2 in the league for pass efficiency.
Receiving
Justen Hilton and Dent Brant have made a difference at receiver for INS. Both are good mid range receivers with big play capability.
Holloway is NDSUs best receiver. I like Mack too. McNorton is dangerous out of the backfield and Justin Howard is up and coming.
Ps. This team isn't from "Back East". They are close and if they insist we will say they are from "Back East".

Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
JBB,
You have to remember that the Trees have a dual back system...
Darrius Gates and Parade first team all american Shakir bell both average over 90 yards a game for the the 11th best rushing attack in FCS football and second best in the conference(WIU) ....If Gates wasn't getting half of the carries given away to Bell, he would be dominating statistically in the MVFC...
Also your statistics on Mohler are incorrect...Mohler is ranked 7th in the MVFC in the passing efficiency while Fouch is 2nd...I am guessing this Mohler guy likes to check down considering his Completion percentage?
You don't have even have our Wide Receivers names right man...Bryant Kent and Justin Hilton I am guessing that's some sort of backhanded insult? lol....

Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
I am looking at conference games only. That gets the fluff out of the picture. When you do that your other running backs drop off the chart. There are a lot of differences between conference only and all games. Its a strength of schedule issue. Statistics look different when you play OOC in the BIG 12 as opposed to D2 competition.
No insult on the names. That sort of behavior is frowned on when you live by the honor code of excellent sportsmanship. It looks to me I forgot to order Bryant Kents name correctly. They were listed last name first. There was a spelling error in each players name as well. Let them know it was just an editing error. I would appreciate that!

I was mainly pointing out you comparing JUST gates to your stable of backs which isnt a fair examination...
Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
I agree with that dgreenwell3, thats what the thread is for and I appreciate your input. There is no way I can have complete scouting information on the Trees so any input/corrections/comments from Sycamore fans like you are more than welcome as are comments from everyone.
I hope we are resolved on the confusion over the Stats?

Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
I just noticed Indiana State is technically a "back east" team. Man, there sure are a lot of them in this league. Im just thankful we have so many football connections from "back east". I wouldnt be surprised to see a few private jets and limos rolling in. We really got our foot in the door with those YSU games in the 70s.
There is something going on over at the Fabulous Fargo Dome. The activity surrounding the football entrances has picked up, so has security.
There is some type of commotion over at Hector Field too. Im not sure if the Sycamores are rolling in now or if we have some football dignitaries coming in to meet with and advise "The Coach". We might have to wait and see if any limos pull up soon.
There is a lot of support throughout FBS football for The NDSU BISON. The division would really like to see us move up so we are getting a lot of new support from new places. I have heard there are going to be several more satellite football libraries entered into the system too!
Ps. NDSU has one of the largest and most sought-after libraries of football dating back to before Gil Dobie's coaching days and the invention of the forward pass here at NDSU. The addition of the satellite libraries is not only a measure of mutual respect between the contributing institutions but also a testament to NDSUs position in the hierarchy of college football.

Um what is a back east team????
Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
I missed this post dgreenwell3! Im glad you are coming to town. I wont be there. I turned down tickets to the Harvest Bowl because of fall duties around the place. Best cheeseburger in town is the BISON Turf at the corner of University and 13th Ave, across from the NDSU main gate. If you and your dad are up to it. Its an easy place to park, good food in a college atmosphere and a nice walk across campus to the Fabulous Fargo Dome!!dgreenwell3 wrote:O I am very excited my father and I are both coming in and it's gonna be a great time! If you want to be a little closer Buffalo Wild Wings is just across the street from the FFD on 19th ave.
At any rate, welcome to Fargo and the best of luck to both teams.
What's going on at the Mariott Gil? Is the restaurant out there still top notch?

A "back east" team is a team from "back east".
Its an expression commonly used out here in the west when referring to folks from back east. A lot of farmers and ranchers will say something like "damn back east liberals" or "those liberal judges from back east are crazy". Those are expressions of distain. We dont mean it that way in football. Its only a way to identify where a team is from.

Bad news for the Sycamores:
http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id ... up/Sports/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The pulse of the North Dakota State defense is breathing again. Head coach Craig Bohl said Thursday that senior Matt Gratzek will play Saturday against Indiana State.
Admittedly he may not be 100%, and I sure hope the Coach isnt pushing it, but he is a leader on the team and a great player. Having him back is going to inspire the boys on the line.Bohl calls Gratzek one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. He had 22 tackles, four for lost yardage, three quarterback sacks and five quarterback hurries in five games.

Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
We have heard about Ben Obaseki. Great player. That is why a special assignment was issued a few days ago. (You dont see those every week!) They have been working on some film and playing around with some new schemes to take him out of the "flow of the game". The limo that pulled up around 8:30, direct from Hector field, had a couple coaches, one was an assistant, from down Ohio way, probably the State U. I hope they come up with something effective otherwise Obaseki is going to be a real problem. You dont have to believe the BISON coaches went to all that trouble but he is a point of focus.
John Prelvitz #1 punter in the league and a master of the coffin corner will give the Herd excellent field position, should they have to punt.
I have heard the punting return specialists surrounding the NDSU football program arent that worried about Santino Davis. They feel we have the young men on the roster to take advantage of his shorter kicks and short hang times. There has been a lot of talk about speed. Some have questioned NDSUs speed and SDSU for that matter. Ryan Smith our top notch return man has speed and moves.

Also I remember the best tackle in the MVFC getting the special assignment of stopping Obaseki...and he got outmanned by the undersized end from washington High school (Indiana)...
Re: NDSU BISON* @ Indiana State University
Im sorry about the spelling on the name. After this post I will correct it.
Im not sure Obaseki is going to be schemed out by a special assignment. It will be part of it. I think The BISON are going to go to the flow of the game to take him out of it. This may be one of the easiest games he will play. Depending on his position on the field an audible will be called. This will bring the play in a certain direction at a certain tempo designed to take Obaseki away from the ball or leave him vulnerable to the block. That is the kind of thing I think they will do.
Obaseki is #5 MVFC games in total tackles but #1 in the league for tackles for a loss and #2 for sacks MVFC. He is only a soph.
NDSUs own Preston Evans is #7.
