65% prefer a government with fewer services and less taxes

Post by native »

According to Rasmussen:

"...Sixty-five percent (65%) prefer a government with fewer services and lower taxes rather than one with more services and higher taxes. Only 25% take the opposite view and favor a government with more services and higher taxes...."

The problem is, it becomes hard to fund the programs without taxes....and depending on the service being offered, it can't/shouldn't be cut.

I have to go neither on this one.

The way things are going, we'll end up with a government offering fewer services with much higher taxes.

Why do we still have the Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development? Their programs have been massive failures and wastes of money.

Agreed - no one gets upset when the other guy's service gets cut, but everyone complains loudly when it's their turn. :ohno:

Farmer's will want unemployment ended.

Business owners will want farm subsidies ended.

Blue color workers will want business taxes raised.

White color workers will want medicare cut.

Everyone within 200 miles of Berkeley wants military spending cuts.

Military personnel will want cuts to education spending.

Everyone wants cuts to the transportation department.

Everyone also wants the road in front of their house paved and the bridge on their commute widened by at least 4 lanes.

The most obvious "service" I get from the government at all levels is tax collection. Believe me, if they cut that back I will not complain. And why the hell can't we get this question on the November ballot some year?

I have a basic problem with the Poll question...

I prefer a FEDERAL government with fewer services and lower FEDERAL taxes...

Because that would allow state and local governments to decide what services to provide and tax accordingly...

If a local government wants to have the best health care system...or best education system...they should, and tax to pay for it...

That way, the tax payers have more control on how their money is being spent...

Johny's Weekend Assignment

Post by native »

The kids filed back into class Monday morning. They were very excited. Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on productive salesmanship.

Little Sally led off: "I sold girl scout cookies and I made $30," she said proudly, "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civil spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success."

"Very good," said the teacher. Little Jenny was next:

"I sold magazines," she said, "I made $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events."

"Very good, Jenny," said the teacher..

Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath...

Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher's desk. "$2,467" he said.

"$2,467!" cried the teacher, "What in the world were you selling?"

"Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny.

"Toothbrushes!" echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough tooth brushes to make that much money?"

"I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny, "I set up a Dip & Chip stand and gave everybody who walked by a free sample."

They all said the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog poop!"

Then I would say, "It is dog poop. Wanna buy a toothbrush?"

"I used the government's strategy of giving you something shitty for free, and then making you pay to get that taste out of your mouth."

Aside from all of the services these ingrateful Daniel Boone's fail to appreciate, consider that nearly 50% of the population doesn't pay income taxes at all.

America is doomed and only the Chinese have enough guts to come in here and make the hard decisions. I welcome their arrival in 2015.
