MVFC Picks Week 8
Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
You have a favorable schedule, but I'm thinking starting 0-4 is going to be too much to overcome to get an at large. You could if you would blow people out, and show them the first 4 weeks was just a fluke, but again you aren't built for that. I would like to see a 7-4 SDSU team in the playoffs though, more so than a 7-4 or 8-3 (ha) Bizun team.
Both of you were in the UNIDome this year, and from what I saw SDSU was by far the better team

If we get to 7-4, I'm hoping that ending with such a hot streak and the ridiculous schedule some dickheads decided would be a good idea is enough to convince the committee to give us another shot at having to go to Montana again.

If Montana made it in of course

You wouldn't get Montana. I'd see you getting sent to App State honestlyThumper 76 wrote:If we get to 7-4, I'm hoping that ending with such a hot streak and the ridiculous schedule some dickheads decided would be a good idea is enough to convince the committee to give us another shot at having to go to Montana again.

Oh another fun one to play at. Actually I've sworn to myself that I would be making the trip the next time we make the playoffs, so that would be another sweet place to go to. Why do you think App State, us SDSU fans always figured that we will just be continually sent to Missoula because of the geography of it.clenz wrote:You wouldn't get Montana. Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
I'm not sold on the SDSU to ASU, but depending how the Big Sky plays out and how the MVFC plays out it could get odd. For SDSU to get in, that would mean 3 MVFC teams - UNI, WIU, SDSU. That means UNI has to win out, WIU has to win out but lose to UNI, and SDSU has to win out.Thumper 76 wrote:Oh another fun one to play at. That gives UNI a home game (our administration has said we will outbid anyone we have to), and leaves WIU and SDSU up in the air. At 7-4 SDSU is promised a road game, and WIU will probably get a road game because I don't see them being able to put a good bid together...I could be wrong there though.
Depending how the Big Sky plays out, Montana will get a home game, Montana State will get a home game, and I'll say EWU rather than NAU gets their third bid (assuming each conference gets three) giving EWU a road game, unless they feel EWU at home would give them ratings because of the turf.
I could see WIU going to App and SDSU back to Montana/Montana State, but at 7-4 I'd bet SDSU gets sent to a seed and I don't see Montana getting a seed as of right now. I see them losing to Montana State. WIU won't get sent to a seed on the other hand.
Of course there are about 100000 other variables, but I see an MVFC team getting sent to App State for some reason.
Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
getting sent to a seed, for the most part, means playing and winning a first-round (thanksgiving weekend) game, as the top 4 seeds host the first round winners. So prior to anyone getting sent to App State (assuming ASU doesn't totally crap the bed in the last half of the season and play themselves out of a seed) they would first play someone else.clenz wrote:I could see WIU going to App and SDSU back to Montana/Montana State, but at 7-4 I'd bet SDSU gets sent to a seed and I don't see Montana getting a seed as of right now. (the only exception would be the #5 seed, which isn't paired up with a first-round winner)

Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
That makes sense. Forgot to think of the seeding. With the 7-4 record we would likely have to play in the first round though right and App would have a bye then wouldn't they?

Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
Damn new playoff set up...
I would see SDSU playing the new first round game with the winner playing App.
I guess that would give them a first round match up with, the 5th CAA team

Ahh gotcha. I don't mind that matchup. Wanna get at a CAA team with the team actually playing football unlike it did the first two weeks.

You're much faster than last year. Last year it was fair to say you were a slow team, this year not so much.Thumper 76 wrote:True, also I said that UNI is faster. It hasn't been said recently, but after we lost our first couple games before the Nebraska game a couple UNI/SIU fans were saying that last years playoff appearance and wins were luck with no speed, athleticism, or even players who could be considered as athletes on the team. So I just wanted to point this out. And you don't see a coach point out their speed often. They will always say they are well coached, disciplined, yadda yadda, hit hard. Not so often do they mention the speed unless it is a team with some speed on the team. Not saying we are the fastest, just trying to fight the thought that SDSU is just big, fat, and slow.

Here's another fun one - SIU wins out (@MSU, @NDSU, ISU, WIU), UNI doesn't, and NDSU upsets the Jacks for the marker. SIU would be the AQ. Probably a rematch with SEMO.clenz wrote:I'm not sold on the SDSU to ASU, but depending how the Big Sky plays out and how the MVFC plays out it could get odd. Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
We have the same basic set of skill players from last year except for our middle linebacking position, our line is where we lost a lot of people. Aren't the skill players the ones that you look at the speed for generally?houndawg wrote:You're much faster than last year. No, you don't IMO. That is what slow teams use as a defense to say that they are not slow. "well we have 2 recievers and a running back that run a 4.4 40!!". Everyone has fast skill guys.Thumper 76 wrote:We have the same basic set of skill players from last year except for our middle linebacking position, our line is where we lost a lot of people. IMO, when you are judging team speed, you look at your D line, your linebackers, and then your skill guys. But having defensive athleticism and speed is what separates teams.

Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
on the comment of team speed I cant agree more...I think that's why Indiana State has had the turn around we have had...alot of team speed in our linebacking corp and defensive line...But I don't think honestly there has been much skill position speed...not elite speed at least

Western Illinois (3-1, 5-2) at Missouri State (2-4, 1-2), 1 p.m. The way MSU’s season is going, this one will have three lightning delays and the Leathernecks eventually win it on a successful, last-play ‘fumblerooski’ touchdown. Or maybe this is the week that it all goes the Bears’ way.
Missouri State 40, Western Illinois 34
Youngstown State (1-3, 3-4) at South Dakota State (2-2, 2-4), 2 p.m. YSU’s season has mirrored Missouri State’s in many ways, with some tough, last-minute defeats after a promising start. South Dakota State has won two in a row after an 0-4 start.
Youngstown State 34, South Dakota State 31
Indiana State (2-1, 4-2) at North Dakota State (1-3, 4-3), 3 p.m. The Sycamores have won two league games in a row, but today is a new animal, as they have to win on the road. That will be difficult in one of the league’s toughest places for visitors to play.
North Dakota State 38, Indiana State 30
Illinois State (3-2, 4-3) at Northern Iowa (2-1, 3-3), 4:05 p.m. If there’s a team capable of establishing itself as a frontrunner, it could be Northern Iowa. The Panthers’ offense could have a big day against a struggling Illinois State defense.

Re: MVFC Picks Week 8
Well, we're definitely slower this year, my one and only worry about hiring Dale Lennon, so maybe you just look faster compared to us than you did last year. I agree with DJH, team speed isn't about your skill guys, although we have as slow a group of them as anybody this year, I notice it on plays like off-tackle runs where the o line opens a big hole but the back only gets 2-3 yards or screen passes that set up well but don't get much, that kind of thing.Thumper 76 wrote:We have the same basic set of skill players from last year except for our middle linebacking position, our line is where we lost a lot of people.
