I'm a football fan, especially of college, so I'm all for anything putting more games on my TV. There could be 50+ bowls (or one for each Division I-A team to play in) and I'd still watch. :P

Of course the bowl system is silly for crowning an actual national champion, but they do a great job providing one last opportunity for teams to go out with a win. I'm cool with that.

I hope to see ASU in a bowl game someday. App is only team I cheer for - I don't root for I-A teams in addition to the Mountaineers or switch to the Heels during basketball season. And considering the abyssmal state of ASU men's and women's basketball, I need all the alternate college sports viewing I can get.

"Many of the pro-IAA'ers are actually tar hick/gamecock/whatever fans and don't want us on that level b/c it would make 'em uncomfortable...Love them 'Heels and root for the Apps. We move up and the comfort zone begins to evaporate."

Bobby Hauck beats out Wyoming, Utah State, Idaho and Colorado State regularly for recruits. What's THAT say?

Well, same happens at UNI and many other FCS places. Still, give me a four day trip to Tampa over a 29 degree night in Chattanooga.

You're welcome to it. When I got off the plane in Chatty and it was 70 with a little humidity I couldn't stand it.

That's one of 30-some-odd bowls and it would still be better than two days in Chattanooga.

You've just negated your own argument. You said "like it or not, a recruit will choose an FBS school over an FCS school any day, low-rent bowl game notwithstanding".

Now, if it's YOU that prefers the trip to Tampa, go right ahead. But recruits choose every DAY to play for a real playoff system than a hokie, made up championship. The recruits that don't have to worry about that choice aren't the ones we're talking about anyways.

Jeezus...went to one of those MPC Computer Bowls in (I think) 2004 or 2005...the Fresno-Virginia game...tickets were second to top row, upper deck, even though stadium was half empty...

...with the wind up there, it was about 5 deg...froze my GD azz off...and the punch line was...afterward, we were down on the field, and with no wind down there, it felt around 50 with the heat from the field.

Anyway...highlight was meeting some LDS friends before the game (have a few of them up there...duh...), eating breakfast with no coffee (always hits the spot seeing as we woke up at 4a to catch the 6a flight to Boise...), then enjoyed an alcohol-free tailgate (fv(kn just shoot-me), and afterward, invited me to come with him to his office so I could help him work on some accounting calc's he needed to do...(BANG!!!)...I passed. Drove up and down Vista Ave counting the motels until my flight left...

Boise's not bad...but they need to "reconfigure" their party atmosphere.
