The Big Sky Conference has suspended the referee from the Northern Arizona University-University of Montana football game, league Commissioner Doug Fullerton announced Wednesday.
Jim Lenau has been suspended for one game for misapplication of a rule during the second quarter of Montana’s 24-21 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday, Oct. 23, in Missoula, Mont.
With the score tied 7-7 and 44 seconds remaining in the first half, Northern Arizona kicked the ball to Montana. The Grizzly player caught the ball and stepped out of the back of the end zone. The play was ruled a safety on the field and two points was awarded to Northern Arizona. The play should have resulted in a touchback for Montana.
Lenau issued an apology for the error following Saturday’s game.
Good call by the BSC. It didn't matter that it didn't influence the outcome. Things like this should not happen. Ever.
Dude officiates BOTH football and baseball? That's rather unusual. A lot of knowledge to remember. No wonder he screwed up. But how the cr@p did he screw up something as basic as THAT?!?

I found it funny how many fans agreed with the call when it happened.
The only way it's a safety is if he runs out into the field of play, then back into the endzone. It happened at the end of the App/McNeese game last year when App tried lateraling the ball when time expired.

There are Griz fans that will twist whatever facts they can to praise Pflugrad, and there are Griz fans that will twist whatever facts they can to denounce him.

Because he's not Hauck, or just because they like to stir the pot?

I didn't see him go nuts. He talked about it with the ref for a little bit at the time, though. Pflugrad doesn't seem to be a guy that yells & screams a bunch.
I think he & the rest of the coaches were too flabbergasted by the call to scream.
I was flabbergasted by that call for hours...I mean...I'd assume you have to have at least a basic knowledge of the rule book to get the job but I guess not.

The same way you blow every weekend. You really need to use less tooth..from what I have been told.
