Trick/Special Plays
What's your favorite special/trick play your team has drawn up/executed this season?
EWU had one Saturday that was designed for TJ and worked like a charm; check out his 65 yard TD run at the -0:17 mark.

TJ is an amazing all around player. I look forward to watching him on Sundays Until then though...

Unless they allow him to wrap himself in bubblewrap I don't think TJ will be playing on Sundays.ArmyOfDarkness wrote:TJ is an amazing all around player. I look forward to watching him on Sundays Until then though...

He needs to add 10-15 lbs, but to think he's not going to be playing in the NFL is just plain stupid.AZGrizFan wrote:Unless they allow him to wrap himself in bubblewrap I don't think TJ will be playing on Sundays.ArmyOfDarkness wrote:TJ is an amazing all around player. Re: Trick/Special Plays
I haven't seen ODU run a trick play yet, but one cool fact about us is that we've never lost an onside kick...and we've probably run close to 10 in our two season (5 this year). Heach Coach Bobby Wilder and Special Teams Coach Michael Zyskowski are VERY good as to when to call the onside kick and scout the opponents well in this regard, and have taken pride in winning what they call "hidden yardage." Our onsides take everyone in the stadium by surprise.

Re: Trick/Special Plays
I don't think the Apps have really run a "trick" play this year that worked other than a "flanker option" to Matt Cline who had reversed into the backfield. I believe that was against Sammy but might have been Jax...bad memory. On the other hand App has seen a wide variety of flee-flickers, halfback passes and reverse passes and many, many of them have unfortunately worked. UTC, WCU, Sammy, Jax and Furman pulled off tricks against us for big gains or TDs.

Weber has been pretty successful at the flea-flicker this year, thought they were going to use it on Montana, but they didnt.
Montana used it on Weber though

If he could ever stay healthy, he'd definitely have a chance. I'm sure as hell rooting him to do so. He's made out of porcelain, though. James Harrison could break his knee just by looking at him.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:He needs to add 10-15 lbs, but to think he's not going to be playing in the NFL is just plain stupid.AZGrizFan wrote:

Ironically enough, I'm pretty sure that was the first one Montana has pulled this year...and it looked like it.Wildcat Ryan wrote:Weber has been pretty successful at the flea-flicker this year, thought they were going to use it on Montana, but they didnt.

The end-around reverse has been very popular in Pflugrad's system, to varying results.

We ran a flea-flicker on the first play against Furman last week. Pass was off, but if it was on-target it would have been a TD.SpeedkingATL wrote:I don't think the Apps have really run a "trick" play this year that worked other than a "flanker option" to Matt Cline who had reversed into the backfield. That's about the extent of the trick play book for App St.

Re: Trick/Special Plays
Southern ran this trick play where the QB took the ball from center, rolled out to his right and let the ball go, some how a receiver caught it and ran down the field past a white line marked with a G. I heard it's called a touchdown pass, what a weird play, don't know if we'll see it again.

I think his glass bones are in direct correlation to the amount of "TJ TOP" per game. I would assume something around 30-45 minutes, maybe more .Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:He needs to add 10-15 lbs, but to think he's not going to be playing in the NFL is just plain stupid.AZGrizFan wrote:

Although, I think he would be recruited as a slot back or small receiver in the pros. Not that it would matter really, but AE comes to mind all of a sudden... BTW is he still with Carolina, haven't heard his name in awhile?

Re: Trick/Special Plays
What was so exotic about that play? It was an inside handoff end around or something similar. It's not like it was the Swinging Gate or anything like that.
That said, there was superb execution on that play, particularly from the line and receivers blocking downfield.

AE is still on the Panthers' 53 roster but is usually inactive for games. The bonehead coaches won't give him a real chance to play even though his quarterback skills are well above the clowns playing quarterback(Moore & Clausen). His WR skills are supposedly what keeps him inactive as he learns the new position. Moore and Clausen have underthrown many potential TD passes that AE could have made on a bad day. It's really frustrating to see his talent wasted as he stands on the sidelines watching all of those "prototypical FBS, 6'1" or taller, 200+ lb. quarterbacks" looking like pop-warner level players. Of course, he won't get a chance at quarterback because he is too small, FCS player who didn't play against any real talent, blah, blah, blah!!!!!!!!

Re: Trick/Special Plays
I think our best is the fake punt. Our punter did it twice against NWS. He is 10/10 in his 3 years at TXST and always gets more yardage than needed. (8.6 avg per rush)
Re: Trick/Special Plays
The best trick play I've personally witnessed FOR Delaware was a fake snap over the punter's head that Delaware used against Navy in 2003. It completely changed the momentum of the game, which Delaware went on to win. It's the very first play on this highlight reel:

The best trick play I've personally witnessed AGAINST Delaware was a fumblerooski before it was made illegal. Help me out Hens fans. I believe it was Samford that did it to us in the '92 playoffs? It was a TD in the SEZ. I remember that much.

Re: Trick/Special Plays
To the original question, our RB (Chase Reynolds) pitch and toss back to our QB (Justin Roper) for a TD. 2:12 mark
Also note the ISU trick play at the 0:58 mark. It is always a classic when your own teammates tackle you.

Regardless, I will still root for AE were ever he ends up.

That's to bad for AE. He has a lot in common with the UofM's Dave Dickenson. All of the talent in the world, and would probably dominate if given half a shot (DD eventually got a shot and kicked some a** for San Diego, but they still wouldn't play him). Stupid stereo-type positions in the nfl.AppTrex77 wrote:""Although, I think he would be recruited as a slot back or small receiver in the pros. Re: Trick/Special Plays
Your description makes it sound like a football version of a fake pickoff where the first baseman dives for the imaginary throw and "chases" into the right field corner. Invariably, the runner takes off and becomes easy pickings for an underhanded toss to one of the keystone guys.93henfan wrote:The best trick play I've personally witnessed FOR Delaware was a fake snap over the punter's head that Delaware used against Navy in 2003. It sounds like an incredible play to watch.

93hen: While there was nothing special about that dive, the pick was a clear momentum changer given the location on the field, that hit had to have rocked the stands, and that fake punt (I was right in suspecting a direct snap to the fullback) was awesome.
In short, your boys really took the Middies to the woodshed. Congratualtions.

Re: Trick/Special Plays
When Mike Brown was a WR last year we had a play drawn up where he took a sweep or toss or something to the outside then passed it.
Other than that, we don't do much. We run a lot of spread option/pistol stuff but nothing considered a "trick play". We emulate the Tim Tebow formation a lot and have Mike run like Tim does, but again, not really a trick play.
Presby's backwards bounce pass against Wake was pretty awesome, and Savannah State actually ran a really nice double WR reverse flea flicker on us that burned us for a TD.

Re: Trick/Special Plays
MSU runs an end around with our 2nd string QB/1st string WR... play sets up as an end-around, then when he reaches the other sideline he throws it back to Kirby, our QB, who either passes or takes off running.
