Who votes in the most gerrymandered district?

Post by Skjellyfetti »

I vote in Virginia's 3rd. Random blobs around where the black people live. Not sure I've seen another district with unconnected areas like this.

NC 12 and VA 3 exist for one and only one purpose and that is to make Republicans strongers in the surrounding areas. A hearty thanks to the creators of majority "minority" districts.

The low number Maryland districts are really comical. The area between Baltimore and Annapolis was obviously gerrymandered. District 1 covers so much territory with such disparate interests that it makes no sense whatsoever. Salisbury to Elkton to Severna Park to Cape Saint Claire in Annapolis. WTF?:

...or they were created as a guaranteed national donk district in a historically blue state being run by donks since Reconstruction (NC)...

The New York 8th, this is the district I moved into in September. First time in my life I moved 13 streets and got a new Congressman lol. Part of the district cuts through central and southern brooklyn, the other part is western manhattan

Looks like Indiana uses a computer program that relies on data and logic rather than party objectives.

Either that or the state is so homogeneous that gerrymandering was difficult to justify.

Probably a mix of both. I'm sure the closer to Indy and Chicago you get, the bluer it gets, but it was the 1964 the last time a Democrat won the electoral votes from Indiana. Obama broke that trend by a very narrow margin, but for the most part, Indiana is a red state, especially compared to the rest of the midwest.

I wish everybody did it like Iowa. Non partisan legislative bureau draws the map. Legislature has to vote it up or down. No amendments. If they vote it down a new map is drawn and same process. Our map looks pretty good.

This is mine. May not seem like much based on geography. But notice how about half is in the valley and half is near the Bay Area. That plays a HUGE factor in who gets elected. The valley half is staunchly conservative Republican, while the other half is crazy liberal-Donkey. It's always a toss-up on who wins. It looks like valley guy David Harmer is taking out Pleasanton's Jerry McNerney.

Image

You should see our 10th Assembly District. The geography is absolutely crazy. If I can find an image, I'll post it. The only thing I've ever seen like it is that VA House district from earlier in this thread, though there's no water breaking it up like back there.

Image

This goes from North Stockton through Lodi and Woodbridge, into South Sac, Rancho Cordova, and out into Amador County and El Dorado Hills. Alyson Huber (D-El Dorado Hills), my BFF from middle and high school, looks to have beaten Republican Jack Sieglock (Lodi's sacred cow) rather handily after beating him by only 447 votes in 2008 in a race that took three weeks to decide, mainly because of how slow absentee ballot counting is around here. Sieglock's name was already on the office door when Aly was confirmed as the 2008 winner. No such problems this year, apparently. The gerrymandering is an issue because Stockton and Sac go Democrat while Lodi and El Dorado Hills go Republican. This will likely change when the new independent district drawing board goes into effect. We expect much of this crazy gerrymandering to go away. Originally, this board was restricted to state legislative districts, but an initiative passed on last night's ballot extends it to our House districts.

With Harris winning in District 1 and O'Malley being re-elected as Governor. I expect District 1 to get a little more eastern Baltimore City. :ohno:

Maybe you should stay at the beach house:

Sussex County, DE

O'Donnell - 40,345
Coons - 28,019

Or even switch houses with me:

Kent County, DE

O'Donnell - 25,059
Coons - 22,312

But avoid where you came from:

New Castle County, DE

Coons - 123,569
O'Donnell - 57,621

So I was right about seeing more O'Donnell signs over the entire state. ;)

I have no problem with Dems, I voted for some, but I DO have a problem with people that can't vote anything but their party. Every single elected office goes one way? :ohno:

Again, you can thank O'Donnell and the teabaggers for that. I'm still pissed we lost Mike Castle to a bunch of fringe idiots.
