See that's the thing I was trying to get across to him last time. I said I would be for it if all drugs were legal but I can acquiesce that there are much steeper societal dangers with the other drugs. I am trying to be clear that I think pot and alcohol are very similar in their dangers to society and should have equal footing and equal punishments but it's not coming across for some reason. I hope your point (a good one btw) will get it reconciled.Grizalltheway wrote:Hen, alcohol is a drug, too. Agree. Hence the irony that pot is illegal when alcohol is so prevalant, nay "celebrated", in our society....89Hen wrote:Who said I believe alcohol should be legal?Grizalltheway wrote:Hen, alcohol is a drug, too. 15% for beer. There are probably 4 beers brewed in the USA with higher content.Appaholic wrote:Not in NC...there is a limit to alcohol content in any beer, wine or liquor sold in NC. And liquor can only be sold by Alcohol Beverage Control stores from 8a-9p Mon-Sat.
We also have tight ABC rules (I'll guarantee our county are MUCH tougher than anything you've seen in NC) but that doesn't mean I can't buy alcohol. I can also drive across the bridge and buy my beer in a grocery store in VA. Of course it's illegal for me to transport it back across the state line so I just drink it on the way home.

80% of the country drinks while 20% smoke pot. You just need to convince more people to smoke pot, then Prop 19 can pass in every state.Appaholic wrote:Agree. Hence the irony that pot is illegal when alcohol is so prevalant, nay "celebrated", in our society....

It used to be quite a bit lower. I believe this was changed in the past 4 years in an attempt to support our burgeoning micro-brew industry. But, you point is noted...btw, we haven't experienced an increase in the amoutn of drunks littering our sidewalks due to the relaxation of this alcohol content increase.....You're such a rebel Hen.89Hen wrote:15% for beer. Used to be a limit in MT at 80 proof or something but my grandma and grandpa lived in a town that had MT on one side and a block or two down the street it was ND. The ND liquor store kicked the living shit out of the one on the MT side.

Well, if we could advertise pot with the swedish bikini team during prime time, our usage might increase. WE can't, so usage is limited...much like the downtunr in cigarette usage with the criminalizing of Joe Camel & the Marlboro Man...89Hen wrote:80% of the country drinks while 20% smoke pot. I don't really either as a 39 yr old, but hate to see us waste limited funds on continuing to investigate, prosecute & jail marijuana users, so I'm more concerned as a taxpayer than as a user....89Hen wrote:BTW, I don't give a rats ass about Prop 19 and honestly wouldn't care if it passed. Some people might be scared off by that whole illegal thing with regards to pot. I'm sure there were fewer drinkers during prohibition too.89Hen wrote:80% of the country drinks while 20% smoke pot. BTW, my grandfather ran a speakeasy in the early 30's in his house in the Lehigh Valley. Had a tunnel cut from the cellar to another private room. He was a soda maker and also knew how to brew and distill. I've collected quite a few of his soda bottles from the 40's.

BTW2, if you really want to get me worked up on a state issue, ask me about legalizing slot machines but not table games.

There are some amazing parallels I'm seeing in our lineage and thought processes that completely clash with how we go at it on many issues hen.89Hen wrote:BTW2, if you really want to get me worked up on a state issue, ask me about legalizing slot machines but not table games.![]()

Well, if alcohol was illegal and pot was kosher, my stomach might be in better shape.89Hen wrote:You say that as if it were a bad thing.SunCoastBlueHen wrote:Some people might be scared off by that whole illegal thing with regards to pot. I'm sure there were fewer drinkers during prohibition too.
Anyway, I haven't smoked pot in probably 20 years, mainly because I never wanted to put my livelihood in any kind jeopardy with even the slightest risk of getting "pinched". My friends often talk fondly of the old days when we were much younger and the smoke was passed around. Maybe all of those more recent poker nights with the boys would have been more interesting if we were doing bowl hits instead of shots of tequila.
