I definitely agree it was a good defensive move by the MVFCclenz wrote:I've been pretty "against" USD in the MVFC, but I think this could be a good move. It "might" be protection against the realignment crap in the future.Theee Catrabbit wrote:
Credit Tom Douple with this from the Summit League, he worked his ass off with the MVFC to make this happen. Here's a write up from the AL website. Oh you stupid sioux, with your dumb name controversy. How will 13 teams work in the Big Sky?
Jackrabbit Nation will be split, but for the most part the Summit needed USD and got rid of SUU travel expenses. Really collapsed our footprint a little in the Summit, now only Oral Bob is a distance. That's a win.
As for football the Coyotes have two natural rivalries, and are trying to build one with UNI. It's good for the confernce in my opinion.

This conference blows. Too much competition.
But I suppose I could see the point in MSU's case.
Perhaps the OVC or the Southland is a better fit for y'all.

Seriously though, I've heard a lot of FBS rumors about MSU, maybe USD was protection against MSU, ISUR, or SIU taking off in the next couple years

Re: USD to the MVFC!?!?
Well i definitely hope for the best for our former rivals, however in regards to the shifting conference scene North Dakota technically is not joining the Big Sky until July 1st 2012, which would give ample time for them or even South Dakota to change their minds and try to stay together. Not looking forward to a 13 team conference in the Big Sky otherwise.
Re: USD to the MVFC!?!?
It sounds like UND is pretty set on the Big Sky.
that could change though. USD didn't really seem all that inot the big sky, but were scared of being left in a Summit League that didn't offer football, but not wanting to cover travel costs for all sports to EWU, Montana, Montaa St, NAU, etc...
When the MVFC said, join us and the Summit will be a little safer as the football Summit schools will have a home it makes easier for the Summit to stay together, I think USD jumped.

UND cancelling the Summit visit was a statement to say the least. Still, they could apologize and re-schedule the visit and see what the MVFC says.clenz wrote:It sounds like UND is pretty set on the Big Sky.

1. Big Sky brought UND and SUU in to replace Montana and Montana State who have apparently recieved official invites from the WAC (apparently the same day SUU and UND got them from the Big Sky)
2. The MVFC is brining USD in because there appears to be something possibly happening with YSU
3. YSU appears to be taking Nova's spot in the CAA with Nova going Big East in Football
That could be complete bullshit, but from everything I've read that seems like the scenario playin gout

Re: USD to the MVFC!?!?
Solution: Return *UND where they naturally belong... MVFC. Now you have a 12 team BSC. Even number. And you dont have the travel strain of UND. UND was too far to be in the sky anyway. 12 teams. perfect.

Reading YSU boards they would like into the OVC more than they want to stay in the MVFC. USD and UND have never been "married" or tied together in anyway as partners like SDSU and NDSU were. They transitioned separately, they had their own deals to make.

Re: USD to the MVFC!?!?
This right here, from that link, is why USD picked the MVFC
South Dakota received a formal invitation from Conference Commissioner Patty Viverito on Wednesday and accepted today. The move to the MVFC reignites Coyote rivalries with South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Northern Iowa who are currently members of the nine-school conference and were previously members of Division II’s North Central Conference. With five other institutions within 700 miles of Vermillion, the MVFC will give Coyote fans, boosters and alumni several chances to travel to road games.

We at the XDSU's didn't really care for them a few years back when they rejected us. Now USD pulls one over on them and I think it's freakin great.AZGrizFan wrote:JayJ79 wrote:'tis been officially announced:

Montana and Montana State are gone to the WAC.
Big Sky needed teams to fill it, they put a ton of feelers out there and got interest from every school.
MVFC saw YSU looking to bolt, and for stabilization knew they needed to offer someone, but was holding out. When UND and SUU bolted and USD had the offer they knew they couldn't wait anymore and had to jump on USD with an offer.
