Yes I would if Bush did, and that is what BHO has done.

Doofus in charge can't come up with an original idea in regards to the war if his life depended on it. Has to copy Bush, because he is so clueless.

For those that want to chime in and say I am wrong, I got this for you. Why has BHO approved all this:

1) Predator drone attacks (increased usage)
2) Wiretapping
3) Email intercepts
4) Indefinite, er wait, Prolonged Detention.
5) Keeping Gitmo open
6) Patriot Act, including signing on to three provisions that were supposed to sunset out.
7) Rendition.

Obama is a civil rights wrecking machine.

Questions for the Dems. If Bush was such a retard, when why has Obama not only copied, but increased his war stance?

Obama is lost.

I think the poll is a pretty good demarcation between when water boarding is useful and when it's out and out torture. If you know someone has significant information that if obtained will result in the substantial protection of innocent lives, then yes, by all means, start pouring the water. But if you're just doing it to pass the time on some poor POW who has no information of use and you're just satisfying some sadistic, sick streak in your personality, then it's torture, pure and simple. Sometimes answers aren't as clear as we would like them to be.

I have no problem with my country using whatever means necessary to defeat an enemy in time of war. If torture is what it takes, torture the hell out of them. If it takes killing civilians, kill the hell out of them. I don't care... the life or dignity of no enemy is worth the life of an american- ever.

I agree. Those provisions of international law which per se outlaw torture, by prohibiting the interposition of any necessity or justification defense, are morally indefensible and reprehensible.

When he was apprehended, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was sitting on information pertaining to active plots to kill thousands of innocent people, and he refused to give it up.

After five waterboarding sessions, and 189 applications, he sang like a canary.

Those who authorized the waterboarding, and those who carried it out, saved thousands of innocent lives. What they did was necessary and justified. Like in any other criminal proceeding, these defenses provide appropriate context to the morality or immorality of the actions taken and in this situation, should provide an absolute defense.

I don't walk the fence. I think freely on every issue and avoid falling into the trap of a party, church, or media outlet agenda. My stance on this issue is hardly left. You might want to go back and reread.

Btw, our good friend BH86 is voter #1 against. He sort of made that clear early in the thread.

He's another one of those free-thinking types. :thumb:

I don't think many of the people talked about in this thread that were convicted of war crimes were convicted because they waterbaorded someone. I am willing to place a large sum of money on the fact that they did a lot of other stuff that was a lot worse and they threw the waterboarding in as a way to pile on. There were/are far worse things that happen in war than waterboarding and I think we should apply the technique to anyone and everyone that we capture in a theatre of war these days.

I figured you would take it as a compliment being equated with a people:

* who have done nothing to earn the peace and freedom they enjoy, which for 65 years has only been guaranteed by an American military commitment that they nonetheless criticize;

* who claim the high moral ground on America because they have outlawed the death penalty, but who nonetheless resisted lifting a finger to stop a genocide occurring right within their midst (in fact, Bill Clinton had to twist their arms in order to our European/NATO allies to react to the ethnic cleansing in Bosnia); and

* who have become a faithless people who worship at the altar of materialism, become soft and without any guiding principles, and look to their governments, rather than themselves individually, to provide for their most basic needs.

Europe has gone soft. That is why al-Qaida finds it to be a perfect place through which to move operatives.

You're not ACTUALLY drowning them, you're just making them THINK they're drowning. In other words, you're creating an illusion for them. Not as bad as actually submerging them underwater, so I approve.
