The "CAA is the greatest" conversations pop up fairly frequently. I think you will find that most people on here respect the CAA. But there is also some pretty good FCS football outside of the CAA and most people on here want there due respect.ttgwm02 wrote:Haha. Ok i deserved that for the first post. Well done. And they get it from me - I just had a hissy fit after the WM game ended and I saw the "overrated CAA" team posts on the Nova thread.
BTW...whats your bet on who goes ahead this week - Delaware or the tribe in the polls.

I don't know, I would rank W&M higher than UD based on head to head, so I guess I'll say W&M.ttgwm02 wrote:And they get it from me - I just had a hissy fit after the WM game ended and I saw the "overrated CAA" team posts on the Nova thread.

Re: URI leading Villanova
App State beat Wofford worse than James Madison in 2008(and we were a controversial 4th down spot from taking control of that game).....Elon (who didn't make the playoffs) handled Wofford way better than Richmond in 2007.ttgwm02 wrote:Yeah....i must have missed that every year since the CAA started at least one of their teams has been in the final game.
Ok..perhaps that was a bit of an overstatement. There is pretty good football in the rest of the country. NIU, SIU, Montana, SD, etc have all fielded good programs in recent years. At the same time, I saw a lot of those teams play the last two year against CAA teams in the playoffs and felt that with the exception of App State and Montana, it was really a clear difference in skill, experience and talent.
You see it in the playoffs. The last three years, the CAA is 20-7 over teams from outside the CAA. 4 of those losses came to Appalachian State.
It is also notable - and this is important - that the CAA is in a region that does not have a mid-major football conference. Along the east coast you have only the Big East and the ACC - so if you play in that region, want to stay there and dont get an offer from a BCS automatic qualifying conference program, you are looking at the CAA.
That being said - I think the fact that the CAA, (with the exception of Towson at the moment) is the only conference in the country that fields an entire conference, where on any day one of the bottom teams can beat a top-five team in the country and it will be no surprise to fans of the conference. I watched URI play William and Mary and they are a GOOD football team. Yes they lost to Fordham early, but that team is good. I am not saying they should be in the playoffs, but I will say that if you compare their talent and skill with the bottom feeders in any of the other FCS conferences, it isnt even close.
I'd like to see the scores of those 20 wins....and unless the final score average is better than a 10 point victory for the CAA, you are officially full of BS
edit: I'm not saying the CAA isn't better, I just think the whole "top-to-bottom they are head and shoulders" argument like above is BS

Its night and day. This forum is a waste of time because the lack of respect, education, and knowledge about how good the CAA is is absurd. URI is a very good football team, and Villanova has been through the CAA wars just like W+M, Delaware, UMass, and New Hampshire, along with JMU and UR, would win or finish second in any other conference in the country.![]()
I think there's an awful lot of knowledge about the CAA on this forum.
But sit back and think about this.....Villanova just lost to a team that lost to Fordham. Gotta expect some "overrated" chants.

I dropped Montana from 6 to 8 after BEATING NAU. I dropped them from 8 to 22 after losing to Weber. Nova might just be on the outside lookin' in after this debacle.SeattleGriz wrote:Hell, I'm dropping Villanova out of my top 20 for losing to URI.AZGrizFan wrote:

Re: URI leading Villanova
Anyone know when Sczcur is due back? Villanova is just not the same team without the best player in FCS. Any discussion about how good or bad Villanova is is sort of made moot without him on the field.
I bet the fucker gets healthy in time for the Delaware game.

Sorry I'm late to the party.
WE SHOCKED THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never did I think we'd go from 1-10 to defeating the defending FCS Champions in one season. Congrats to Coach Trainer, staff and players.
A BIG thanks to that former teammate of mine who drove me home after my (over) celebrating on Saturday after the game.
I love the way our defense and special teams played. Holding 'Nova to < 100 yards rushing is something I never could have predicted but three turnovers on top of that is unbelievable. Kudos to our D-line for keeping heavy pressure on the QB for the entire day. I just wish our offense had scored a TD but Probst passed and ran effectively. Ferrer really pounded the ball for those short gains at the end to keep the clock running.
I like the direction Trainer has this team going in. A winning season is not out of the question. It'd be our first since 2001 and long over due.

I guess the difference is that App was your #1 team, Nova was the CAA's #3 team. To be perfectly honest, there's not a team in I-AA that I look at right now and think there's a national champion. There are a ton of awfully good teams, but not really any great ones.Pwns wrote:App. State loses to a 3 conference loss SoCon team = App. State is just overrated!
