Everybody loves hating Cal Poly.. probably just because we don't get to "interact" with the CAA very much.

We seem to play up/down to teams ability and bend and not break, but we have had a few more "on" games than we have had off. The game against St. Francis was one of our worst. As many of us know, if you play a team 10 times you will see quite different scores every time. The only thing that really matters at the end of the game is the W or L..

I think in reality, the only teams' fans that are saying we don't deserve a spot in the playoffs are the ones we haven't played.

We beat St Francis by 8 and like EP said a very bad game for us.....Out of curiosity why is it that Liberty is throwing stones here?.....it seems that you had a fairly close game with #113.Presbyterian? not too mention I am pretty sure DII Humbolt State could knock off a 1/3 of your schedule which incidentally doesnt take you on 5 road games in a row with stops on the other side of the country....However, if that ever changes feel free to head to SLO, id buy that ticket

In our two years as a program, ODU is 3-0 against the Big South (and we play VMI this week). Cal Poly handily beat us; Cal Poly may not be better than Liberty (I have LU ranked 9 and CP ranked 10 in my CS poll), but I think they'd at least give LU a run for their money. And so they had a bad game against St. Francis? Who cares? They still won and crappy games happen. What's important is that they've beaten some quality teams and have done it travelling the country. Cal Poly is a playoff team.

I'm sure that's it. I'm sure the computer is also a CAA homer.

Do you honestly believe your team deserves a #8 ranking? You lost to us last year, when we had the worst team in years after Ellerson ditched on us... No way you deserve to be in the top 20 Sac.. sorry.

What does a Week #1 result in 2009 have to do with 2010 rankings? :lame:

ODU's mission is to become the third best team in Virginia. Hampton, Norfolk State, JMU, and Liberty are our targets (we don't recruit much against W&M, UR, and VMI). From a strategic view, there would be no point playing against you right now. Our first mission is to recruit the 757 area which means we have to get the HBCU's and JMU out of the way. Coach Wilder knew where Hampton was gonna stand this year and added them to our schedule, and we beat them. Norfolk State is next and Coach Wilder's tentatively scheduled them when most our players are upper-classmen. If we beat them, then we have a huge upperhand against the two local MEAC teams. But even before NSU and HU, we started focusing on JMU because they're our biggest hurdle in this state. We started doing this when we took their best recruiter from them (and now he's at UVA), but he helped us create extremely valuable pipelines around the state and 757. Of course beating JMU will be even more important, but I have no doubt our team will be up to the task next year. If we make it competitive or lose, we have the "first year in the CAA" excuse (which will be the only time we can use it). If we win, Harrisonburg will implode. After we take care of NSU and JMU, then Wilder will probably start looking at LU. I think he'll only schedule you once he's 100% certain ODU can win. Otherwise, I personally expect our first ever meeting to be in the playoffs.

This. :coffee:

And as much as I agree Sac State doesn't deserve to be #8 in this poll ( I have no idea how this poll makes its picks), I will add that Sac State has not lost to an unranked opponent.

*Knock on wood.

We beat the teams we should beat and have lost to EWU, MSU, and UM by a combined 10 points. This Hornet team is a lot better than some of the teams in years past.

I agree that Sac State doesn't deserve to be ranked 8th in this poll. They do however deserve to be ranked and to receive some respect for their play this year. Of their four losses all came against good teams, at Stanford where they scored 17 points, lost by 3 at Montana, by 3 to Montana State in overtime, and by 4 at Eastern Washington. They also have wins vs Weber State and at Northern Arizona both ranked when we played them. Why they are left out of the other polls is a mystery.

Um, until this weekend they had a losing record against D-1 competition. Some people don't like to rank teams with losing records.

You'll get your wish soon! :thumb: I remember we played a home and home with Cal Poly in 2004-2005 which I think each team took a "w" from. I think we did the same sort of thing with UCD around the same time.

Richmond and James Madison were both 4-4 and ranked in the Coaches Poll last week. Why?

That's funny, because there are definitely times in the season when teams with losing records are ranked, specifically early on in the season. (Which is why it makes no sense to have a poll early in the season.)

There's a difference between a losing record and a .500 record?
