Re: Playoff Field
the best scenario for the big sky (but not the best for msu) would be for ewu to win out, and montana to beat und and msu. i think this would get 3 big sky teams in, since msu should already be in even with a loss to the griz.
Re: Playoff Field
Some of you here who have never seen Northwestern St. play this year are pretty certain about their loss against upcoming opponent, SFA. NSU may lose that game, but SFA already has a loss to TX. St. which NSU beat and they were almost beat by McNeese. NSU won't go down without a fight as they are playing some good ball right now. Either way, McNeese would have to lose in one of their last two games even if we beat SFA. I don't see any bid for NSU unless they are conference champs. Always seems to come down to the last game of the season for several of the conferences.

Re: Playoff Field
Ok, probably not going to happen, but if UR beats URI and probable #1 W&M, do they get in at 7-4 with a 3 game win streak and in the CAA

Re: Playoff Field
The Southland is screwing up everyone's predictions! TXST goes out of conference and wins. McNeese runs with LSU. SFA loses to TXST. UCA beats TXST....the list goes on...and where did Northwestern State come from?

Re: Playoff Field
I agree that we are very well a playoff worthy team, however since the GWC doesnt offer an autobid and since we need 7 D1 wins...yes we scheduled ourselves out of the playoffs. Hopefully next season we will not schedule 2 FBS opponents (though both were beatable i would prefer a decent fellow FCS team) and limit it to 1 FBS foe next season. So far what i know of the 2011 Thunderbird schedule (based on other teams posting theirs, subject to change) is:SloStang wrote:SUU is a playoff worthy team that could do some damage in the playoffs. They have a great QB, RB and WR and a stout defense. They just scheduled themselves out of the playoffs.SUUTbird wrote:Cal Poly is currently sitting at 6-3 against D1 schools including playing very well at Fresno State earlier this season. If the Mustangs beat UC-Davis i see them getting an at large big. Though the loss to Texas State does affect them a little a tough loss to as i mentioned Fresno and eventual Great West Champs SUU (who are currently 5-2 against FCS teams this season) dont look to bad. Mustangs should get in.

-Rumored Opponents: BYU, Texas State, San Diego, Dixie State, Weber State, Northern Colorado, Idaho State.
All of the rumored opponents are based off rumblings ive heard from a few friends that know a couple of current players/coaches, definitely not reliable but thats what rumors are and on other forums, ect. I also threw in the Weber State game there because i feel it needs and should happen finally, Weber backed out on us this season. Totally wish we were joining the Big Skyfor next season, especially since we will be returning with a very good team and who knows? May have had a shot at the Big Sky Title or the very least a playoff spot.

Re: Playoff Field
Sac has a better case than Richmond, but if the committee goes for a 6-win team, they'll likely go for the bogus CAA bias before letting a team from the West get it.

Tides will turn and some other conference will rule the roost 10 years from now. But for now, its the CAA. Winning is your solution, not whining about bogus bias. The only 7-4 team selected last year was Weber State my friend.

the committee shouldn't go with any 6 DI-win teams if there are any eligible 7-win teams available (even if it means taking a PFL team).
at least that is how I feel about the matter.

Yes - no brainer. We'd have 7 wins, be ranked between 12 and 15, and out of the best conference in the country.SpiderFan5 wrote:Ok, probably not going to happen, but if UR beats URI and probable #1 W&M, do they get in at 7-4 with a 3 game win streak and in the CAA

A 6-5 or 6-4 team doesn't deserve to make the playoffs no matter what conference they come from.SuperHornet wrote:Sac has a better case than Richmond, but if the committee goes for a 6-win team, they'll likely go for the bogus CAA bias before letting a team from the West get it.

YT: You'd be surprised at how many DO care about grammar and spelling (especially spelling). Just look at that beer commercial I posted about earlier. You can cause some serious confusion when you screw up those things.

Quiet now. Shhhhhh. We have our cloaking device on and are in stealth mode. We are below the radar of most of the people predicting the playoffs field. Most don't know that we have a slight chance at the Southland AQ. We have to take care of business and then be big Demon fans for the rest of the year.SloStang wrote:MrTitleist wrote:Also the McNeese State team we beat 40-14 on the road is also making a run in the Southland. Only loss in Southland play was to S.F. Austin and they had a lead with 1 minute left in that game.
Pay us no mind, we aren't really here.

Doc, you may sneak in the field, but I don't see you getting very far if you do. Although that would be funny if you did. Can't win as the top seed, but maybe make a run as a dark horse. You could be due...McNeese72 wrote:Quiet now. Shhhhhh. We have our cloaking device on and are in stealth mode. We are below the radar of most of the people predicting the playoffs field. Re: Playoff Field
Hey, being that this was supposed to be a rebuilding year plus all of the injuries we have suffered plus playing two BCS teams, I'd be happy to just make the playoffs. We go in with a nothing to lose attitude. We still have two games and that UCA game up there looks to be tough. Plus, we would need help from Northwestern States. Possible but it would be a long shot.89Hen wrote:Doc, you may sneak in the field, but I don't see you getting very far if you do. Although that would be funny if you did. If the playoffs started this weekend.....
Using the current standings for the AB's, and the Coach's Poll for seeding reference, the below is what I come up with as a playoff picture if the playoffs started this weekend;
1st Round:
Montana vs. Western Illinois
Northern Iowa vs. Robert Morris
Massachusetts vs. Lehigh
South Carolina St. vs. New Hampshire
Note, UNH was last in as they were ranked higher than others with similar records.
2nd Round:
UMass/Lehigh winner at #1 Delaware
Stephen F. Austin vs. Southeast Missouri St.
Bethune-Cookman @ #5 Eastern Washington
MT/WIU @ #4 Wofford
SC St/UNH @ #3 Appalachian St.
Montana St. vs. Liberty
Villanova vs. Jacksonville St.
UNI/RMU @ #2 William & Mary

Re: Playoff Field
Based on THAT bracket, I'll go with the following:
First/Opening Round
Montana vs. Western Illinois
Northern Iowa vs. Robert Morris
Massachusetts vs. Lehigh
South Carolina St. vs. New Hampshire
Second Round
UMASS at #1 Delaware
Stephen F. Austin vs. Southeast Missouri St.
Bethune-Cookman @ #5 Eastern Washington
Montana @ #4 Wofford
UNH @ #3 Appalachian St.
Montana St. vs. Liberty
Villanova vs. Jacksonville St.
UNI @ #2 William & Mary
Quarterfinals
SEMO @ #1 Delaware
Montana @ #5 Eastern Washington
Liberty @ #3 App St
UNI @ J'ville St.
Semifinals
Montana @ #1 Delaware
UNI @ #3 App St
Finals
Montana vs. #3 App St @ Frisco, TX
And the ONLY reason I would take App over Liberty is the location. Move the game to Lynchburg, and Liberty wins. I still see the possibility of Liberty getting farther than this, though, perhaps even to the finals.
