Re: UND @ Montana
if i were a griz fan, there are a few things about this game that would concern me:
1. playing a team with nothing to lose. look at the records. UND will be home for the holidays. a win in missoula would make their season and possibly ruin UM's. ALL of the pressure will be on UM in this one.
2. "no respect." UND will undoubtedly be playing to prove they belong in the BSC. winning in missoula would show some mettle.
3. trap game. who do the griz play after UND??? is that a big game?? but seriously, will UM be focused for UND, or did they spend their bye week plotting ways to stop denarius mcghee?
4. coaching. this one kinda ties in with the last one. compared to years past, this doesn't seem to be a well-coached team. will the coaching staff have this team ready to play this game with a much bigger game lurking the following week?
5. running game. it's november and nearly playoff time. a staple of dominant griz teams of yesteryear has been a bruising ground game. this year's version STILL hasn't really established any sort of consistant rushing attack. considering how the griz have lost past playoff games(not to mention games THIS year) one would think they'd chomping at the bit to get reynolds going, but for some reason, they haven't. don't take my word for it, but when the mercury drops, you win by running the football; so it is, so it's always been...for the most part.
6. what weber state did. i'm sure both coaching staffs at UND and MSU are watching this game footage as i type.
on paper, the griz should dominate this game. that said, however, i would not be floored if pflu and co. lay an egg in this one. this has letdown/trap game written all over it.

The Griz are coming off a loss & need to win this to make the playoffs. If UM loses, it won't be because it was a trap.big_meowski wrote:on paper, the griz should dominate this game. that said, however, i would not be floored if pflu and co. lay an egg in this one. this has letdown/trap game written all over it.

Re: UND @ Montana
you just reminded me of point #7: going into a bye week on a loss. the team/coaching staff has had an extra week to stew and second guess themselves. did the bye week do more harm than good? we'll see.Mvemjsunpx wrote:The Griz are coming off a loss & need to win this to make the playoffs. but you're right, their backs are against the wall. be interesting to see how they respond. i'm not totally convinced that pflugrad has control of this team like hauck did.
none of this is intended as smack, but this team reminds me a lot of some past bobcats teams that encountered some of the same problems and they didn't respond. i think the griz are gonna struggle in the last two games.

For style points yes but the Griz need to win both these games or they will not be going to the playoffs this year since they would only have 6 D1 wins.BlackFalkin wrote:Griz, all u need to do is *BEAT MONTANA STATE* thats it.
Re: UND @ Montana
I really wish people would read threads. There is no rule about having to have 7 D1 wins to get into the playoffs. It's just been the standard. The Griz could still get in if they lost to UND. It'd be one helluva long shot, but possible.SUUTbird wrote:For style points yes but the Griz need to win both these games or they will not be going to the playoffs this year since they would only have 6 D1 wins.BlackFalkin wrote:Griz, all u need to do is *BEAT MONTANA STATE* thats it.

Re: UND @ Montana
If the Griz lose to UND they arent going anywhere. It would be akin to UND losing to Sioux Falls University. UND doesnt have much, just in case you havent been watching.

Re: UND @ Montana
i have been watching, and you're right. this isn't about UND's lack of talent though, but rather their opponent on saturday. i think the griz would struggle this week if they were playing fort lewis. gotta put this game in context. a loss going into a bye for a team that doesn't seem 100% on board with their coach might be tough to remedy. UND is CLEARLY not a powerhouse, but i think the griz will be dragging enough for UND to hang around. might even steal a dub. stranger things have happened.JBB wrote:If the Griz lose to UND they arent going anywhere. Re: UND @ Montana
A team without 7 DI wins has NO realistic shot of getting an at-large. A 7 DI win team is already marginal enough as it is, so a 6 DI win team that gets an extra above-&-beyond penalty has literally no chance whatsoever unless—by some insane miracle that will never, ever happen—there aren't enough 7 DI win teams.Willie wrote:I really wish people would read threads. If the Griz don't get 7 DI wins, they will not make the playoffs. I absolutely 100% guarantee it.
I think the Griz will get 7 DI wins, though.
Re: UND @ Montana
If they tied NDSU with 7 wins NDSU would go because of the win at Kansas. A late season loss to a tomato can is not going to hold up to an FBS win especially when the team has been shaky all year. Can Montana still win the BSC?

Re: UND @ Montana
Huh? The Griz have to win out to get 7 DI wins, or were you talking about the Weber loss? I pretty sure you're right that the committee would put NDSU above Montana @ 8-3 (NDSU would have 8 DI wins), though it's not a certainty since the Big Sky is better than the Mo Valley this year (IMO). However, if Montana is 8-3 & NDSU is 7-4, I'm guessing the Griz would get the nod. NDSU's non-conference results are better than their conference results, so these scenarios may depend on how many teams (if any) the Bison get pinned behind in the MVFC. If those teams get to 8-3, however, I'm guessing both will get in without too much of a sweat. NDSU probably misses @ 7-4, though it may be a coin flip.JBB wrote:If they tied NDSU with 7 wins NDSU would go because of the win at Kansas. Montana can share the Big Sky title, but can't get the auto-bid. In the 3-way tie scenario, either EWU or MSU would win on common games depending on who wins NAU/Weber. Montana would need Idaho State to finish even with or higher than NAU/Weber, which is impossible.
Re: UND @ Montana
This is a picture of the UND "brain trust" announcing they are going to win on Saturday in Montana because they are a "peer institution". "Without UND", they said, "the Big Sky would be dead".

yeah, you're SOOO right; what am i thinking?? the griz are on a roll right now. i mean, A ROLL; comparable to nothing anyone has ever seen. the only thing stronger than the way they run the ball is how they stop the run. plus, they've been DESTROYING teams at home all year long. their head coach? pure genius. period. the more i THINK about it, they'll probably roll outta bed and drop 60 on UND; who, by the way, should just save themselves the humiliation/travel expenses and just stay home.Grizalltheway wrote:Thinking isn't your strong point, is it?big_meowski wrote:

Up 13-0, Montana tries a fake PAT and doesn't get it.........why?
Now 13-7.
UND with the ball in Montana territory with about 3 mins left in the half.
