Something similar to this happened in SD when Donna Frye ran for mayor as a write in. To have the vote count, the bubble has to be filled as well as the name spelled correctly. A lot of votes were tossed because people forgot to fill out the bubble and/or spelled her name wrong. Frye lost to Sanders and the rest is history. Basically people are too stupid to follow directions. :twocents:

Sounds like a disaster. Also people are allowed to take in a sample ballot right? That sample ballot would have the correct spelling no?

That sounds doubtful in the case of a write-in candidate.

But given the publicity a big-name write-in candidate such as Murkowski would generate, one could just as easily bring a newspaper article with her name in it (perhaps the requisite article ABOUT her write-in candidacy) and take the spelling from THAT, so your point still applies, SD.

People who show up to vote at a polling place are not absentee voters, period. This looks like a lawyers' bonanza. The wording of the statute may favor Miller, but I predict the judicial outcome will be counting the votes where the intent is reasonably clear.

Those all look like they're "Lisa Murkowski" spelled correctly to me. Only close one is the first.

And, I think it's funny that all of these are that annoying, bubbly, high school female handwriting style.

That's the first thing that caught my attention to....I thought maybe Miller was challenging them because they were all cast by the same person.

If you want to vote for someone as a write in and have it counted then you you learn how to legibly spell their fing name.

The Murkowski campaign purchased and distributed wristbands across the state similar to the Livestrong ones with her name engraved.
