Weber takes a ONE POINT lead with 38 seconds remaining!
Wow!
Weber intercepts an NAU pass on a third down play that should have been a set up for what would have been a two-score game-clinching easy field goal.
Backup quaterback Mike Hoke marches the Wildcats down the field to tie the game on a bruising Vai Tafuna touchdown run and take the lead on the extra point with 38 second remaining in the game!

Northern Arizona now has 2.7 seconds remaining to score in one play from mid field.
Final play, Hail Mary, INCOMPLETE ... Weber wins to finish 5-3 in Big Sky Conference play.

Weber is still alive. Now all they have to do is beat Texas Tech.

Although he completed a TD pass to become the all-time Big Sky leader, it was a tough way for Higgins to go out, too.eaglesfootball wrote:tough way for Herrick to go out, too bad.
The way the team subsequently played for Hoke to come from behind and win the game, I can't help but wonder if the lads had not lost a little confidence in Cameron this year.

Heck, Oklahoma just beat 'em by 38 points. Weber only needs to win by 1.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Technically.LastMinuteman wrote:Weber is still alive. Now all they have to do is beat Texas Tech.

That was a hell of a game, and I only caught the last 8 minutes or so.

Weber clinches a winning season.Wildcat Ryan wrote:WHOO HOO

Don't forget that Ryan the BEAST Eastman returns next year to dominate offensive lines and create anarchy in opposing teams' backfields. ...just what the young Wildcat defense was missing this year.

I agree, Hoke looked great, and we only lose 2 defensive starters and get the BEAST back, Congrats for Higgins for breaking the Big Sky all time Touchdown record (and from the first offensive play by Weber).

Despite it's lack of big-play-makers, the solid but predictable Weber defense is already one of the best red zone defenses in the Big Sky.Wildcat Ryan wrote:native wrote:

WATCH OUT next year when the arrival of a big time defensive Wildcat play maker creates mismatches, reduces predictability, and changes opposing offensive calculations, opening up the defensive backfield to become their inner opportunists.

I turned off the audio feed of the game too early it seems. Utes destroyed for the second straight week. SUU having a tough loss at EWU. I thought Weber was going down as well. It would not surprise me that I turned it off right before the interception.native wrote:The way the team subsequently played for Hoke to come from behind and win the game, I can't help but wonder if the lads had not lost a little confidence in Cameron this year.
The commentators did discuss the difference between Hoke and Higgins. They said something like Higgins used to have ground threat, but in time he stopped running because he got beat up too much and defenses stopped having to worry about his legs and just worry about his arm. Hoke gave NAU something to worry about in terms of both his legs and his arm and that makes a difference. Thoughts?

I had hoped that Cameron would scramble more this season for the reasons you mentioned, to create opportunities both for himself and the offense. Last season - why not?Mike Johnson wrote:I turned off the audio feed of the game too early it seems. Utes destroyed for the second straight week. SUU having a tough loss at EWU. Higgins just never seemed to get over losing favorite receivers like Toone and Nakamura. I can't figure Higgins, he seemed to peak as a sophmore.

Toone was one of a kind, but still Cam had great receivers this year. He just never seemed to get very far out of the starting blocks.webfan wrote:Higgins just never seemed to get over losing favorite receivers like Toone and Nakamura. I can't figure Higgins, he seemed to peak as a sophmore.

Thats one HELL of a position to find yourselves in. And also the downside of scheduling FBS matchups so late in the season.
