IOW, they can lose with the best of them.

And they have won 6 this year...

I don't really care about the hat. But, I'll always bring it up when you bring up Appalachian being overrated compared to whatever Big Sky team has your fancy. ;)

The D2 game puts EWU at a disadvantage.

If App makes a good showing this weekend, they get at least a #2.

And I am not saying ASU is overrated. Just asking why most have ASU ahead of EWU. Make your case.

Does Auburn count Chattanooga as a win over a "solid D-IAA"? You think it makes any sense for them to try to count it as a solid win?
It's more like North Carolina saying they almost lost to a "solid" William and Mary.

Not to mention that D2 and FCS are closer together than FCS and FBS. And CWU would be higher if they hadn't played (and almost beat) a top ten FCS, unlike "top" teams like NWMST and GVSU who won't play up. Lets not forget that they also played undefeated and #1 Minnesota Duluth.

So yes, CWU is extremely "solid"

ASU has looked better in conference and out of conference.

In Conference:

Both have 1 loss - ASU lost in overtime by 7 and EWU lost by 23
ASU beat the number 4 team by 30
Average margin of victory in conference:
ASU - 14 EWU - 7

Out of conference:

Compare CWU to NCCU (DII vs. D1): EWU won by 3, ASU won by 28
Compare Jacksonville (ranked 20th) to SUU (ranked 36th): EWU won by 7, ASU won by 31

I won't comment on the FBS game since ASU hasn't played theirs yet. How can you argue these numbers?

The selection committee is going to see a CWU as a D2 win and Jacksonville as a D1 win, nothing more.

FINALLY - a valid argument!! Thanks.

CWU >>> NCCU
SUU >>>>Jacksonville, IMO

The Wofford game is what I think will give ASU the edge (although if ASU loses badly to Florida, and MSU beats Montana badly and finishes in top 5 as well, that could change.)

Nonsense - he transferred to SUU, and since they suck every year, they'll never get to play Delaware since that will have to happen in the playoffs. But hey, they're improving!

Guess they can prove it in the playoffs......oh wait..........they won't make the playoffs. Should have had more of those 300 yard passing games during the regular season.

And a transfer QB from a good FBS program didn't end up at Delaware??

Are you guys really saying a non top 25 DII is better than the number 20 FCS? And again, even if they are even, look at the margin of victory.

No I he think he means the straight cut-off. One counts as 1 win, the other counts as zero wins. I agree with him, since EWU should get just as much credit for beating CWU as MSU should get for beating Drake.

Yes. Jacksonville is NOT a top 20 FCS team, no matter what the rankings say.

Break down the numbers all you want. Two EWU ass whippings vs. one ASU OT loss.

Not while they're sitting home watching the playoffs this year.

Although we will extend a good #1 to them while dancing on the field in Frisco.

Well, when you put together the recent ineptitude of Big Sky teams without a grizzly bear as a mascot in the playoffs and the fact that App averages almost 30K a game and EWU averages 7.5K, well...

It ain't rocket science Jon.

Well I can argue the average margin of victory in conference because apparently basic math is an area of emphasis in the Boonies. EWU's average margin of victory in conference is 11.8, ASU's is 16.4. However, we have one conference game left to play, and being that it's against ISU, those averages are likely going to even out.

Computer rankings have SUU at 28, JU at 32. Edge still ASU with the margin of victory. NCCU however is 121. CWU would beat NCCU by 21. Yes, NCCU is D-I and CWU is D-II, but that's like comparing New Mexico State or San Jose State to Montana or UNI.

ASU does however have the better win with the shallacking of Wofford, vs. EWU's win over UM. ASU holds the edge, but not by a lot, IMO.
