So then you discount their FBS loss, what do you do with LU's FBS win? That's not fair at all.

And what has the MEAC done the past couple years to deserve anything? SCSU playing App on ESPN and people watching? And the Big South only ever had one chance, and it was CCU against App, which isn't fair at all.
I did count it.

Liberty is 8-3
SC St is 8-1 (or 8-2 if you don't want to count the DII game; or 9-2 if you want to count all the games they actually played), either way their recond is better than Liberty's

It's not like Liberty plays in a conference with a great history of FCS success.

I think Montana has more of a gripe than Liberty.
I agree.

JMU, Montana, UMass, SUU, Cal Poly all belong in over LU.

Also, thanks O'Day, this was very informative..
.
Leo (Anderson): Why SCSU? I really don't see what merit's an at-large, especially compared to Liberty (FBS win), Dayton (9 DI wins, win over RMU).
Jim O'Day: Selecting the teams for the final at-large positions is always a difficult task, and this year was no different. As a committee, we deliberated late last night and early this morning. There were a group of teams for the final two at-large berths. Each team received lengthy discussion about their accomplishments. We felt all of the teams were worthy of consideration, however we could not select them all. Liberty and Dayton had outstanding seasons and should be congratulated for that.
I shoulda known there'd be no actual answer.

No reason to put in SCSU.
I can understand the frustration of a Liberty fan. Liberty had a good team and they're not ready to be done.

I like having conference champions get autobids. They have won something. The PFL being a non-scholie league is a different issue. I prefer them not getting an autobid for this reason, but could understand it if that changed.

If the Griz had won Saturday they would have been in, they were lacking that quality win to get in.

I was gonna say, they use the same response card every year:

We hit our stride the final week. We changed our offense and it worked... really well.

That's the worst part, we won't get to showcase it.

We should have taken care of business against CCU. But in the position we were in, SCSU shouldn't have got in.

But I'm done. Congrats to CCU, hope they make a little noise! Earn the BSC some respect, so that future BSC teams can get in without proper resumes.

Question:

Had LU played Delaware State and a DII instead of RMU and JMU, and won both those games to be 10-1 (9-1 FCS) with a Ball State win, would they have been in?

If so, what does that say about scheduling? Why try and schedule up, when scheduling down benefits you more?

No matter how you look at it, you have to win the games on your schedule. Beat any of the three teams that they lost to and 9-2 Liberty probably gets in over SC State.

I agree. And that's really frustrating.

We had our chances. But I still think we got robbed. But oh well. Nothing I can do now.

I wonder if the committee looked at finding a pairing for RMU, and being NDSU was selected last, they chose NDSU because of the Liberty/RMU results earlier this year. I did think Liberty was worthy of a playoff selection.

That's pretty standard fuck job with regionalization. Historically they scatter CAA, MVC and Southern teams throught out the 4 brackets and lump as many GW and BSC teams as they can in one side. Except on rare occasions, only 1 team west of the Mississippi can have a shot at making it to the semi's no matter what the records or ranks are.

If the Bison were the last team in then all Bison fans should be sending UC Davis a BIG thank you for coming back from being down 21 points to knock Cal Poly out of the playoffs last week.

I just took off my ECB goggles and agree. EWU in particular really got hosed. You went from being the #1 team in the country early this morning to being the #5 seed, the only seeded team that has to play another rested team, your best conference mate right next to you in the bracket and a likely quarterfinal opponent, and in the same half as App State and Nova.

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!!

EWU did get hosed. The #5 seed is meaningless.

William and Mary getting the #2 seed with three losses is a joke.

I have no problem with MSU at #4, due to the head to head, but how is App State's drubbing at Florida any better than EWU's loss to #18 Nevada?

But thanks for the meaningless #5 seed. We get a bye next week, and then face an opponent with an identical record as us, and then we're on the road for the rest of the play-offs if we win. :ohno:

UNI would gladly swap places with you.
(can't take MSU's spot though, as we can't play NDSU in our first game, but we can swap with EWU).

that would put MSU and EWU on opposite sides of the bracket. problem solved. (go ahead and have your AD make the call to the NCAA, I'll get Dannen to do the same)

They said that played no role in their selections.

They always do that. Look at 2008 when they put both Cal Poly and Weber in the same bracket as Montana, arguably making the toughest bracket in the field that year. It adds fuel to the fire for the east to point out to us (as they always do) how many playoff games have the Big Sky won outside of the Griz. You aren't going to have that many wins playing the Griz in the quarters in years past, especially after playing them during the year.

If EWU and MSU do play each other in the quarters, I like whoever comes out of there to represent the Big Sky well. We got the best representatives from the conference in this year.

the regional tilt of this bracket - esp. out west does seem like conscious effort by the AD's to reduce travel costs, rather than produce a bracket that reflects who in fact is the best in the county... that's disappointing, however - it's no different than EVERY OTHER CHAMPIONSHIP (sans men's hoops at the D-I level - and even then...)

As a Bison fan I'm just damned excited to see the realization of a decade-long dream. finally, back in the playoffs.
