Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
I worked this out for a thread on AGS so I thought I'd post it here for some discussion.
I was bored waiting for the App playoff special coming on in a bit so I went through the playoff bracket and counted how many teams were in "driving distance" of Chattanooga and Frisco. I used 12 hours on google maps to determine "driving distance"... which is kinda arbitrary, so I could use a different number if a lot of people think it's too short or too long.
Playoff teams within driving distance to Chattanooga:
Appalachian State
Coastal Carolina
Western Illinois
SFA
Villanova
SE Missouri State
Robert Morris
Delaware
Lehigh
Bethune Cookman
Jacksonville State
Wofford
William and Mary
Georgia Southern
South Carolina State
Playoff teams within driving distance of Frisco, TX:
SFA
SE Missouri State
15 of the 20 playoff teams are within a 12 hour drive of Chattanooga, TN.
2 of the 20 playoff teams are within a 12 hour drive of Frisco, TX
Both of the teams within a 12 hour drive from Frisco are within a 12 hour drive of Chattanooga.

Some have suggested moving the title game to Lost Wages.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Re: Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
I VOTE FOR LAS VEGAS
Re: Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
UNI is just outside the 12 hour estimate by Mapquest/Google, for both places.
it's 805 miles, which Mapquest estimates at 12:37, but it is easily drivable in 12
Pretty much the same story with Chatty though, as well
785 miles, Mapquest estimate of 12:25
So it's a wash, really. Not that I think UNI will be making it to Frisco this season. (but then, I didn't figure they'd make it to Chatty in 2005, so who knows)

I'm in for Las Vegas, however, I would think your research points out some pretty clear ECB! I'm not convinced that 2 of the CAA or SoCon at large bids are any better than Montana or Sac St. And those are just examples. How many other conferences closer to Texas have teams that could be in, in place of the same teams I just mentioned.

And Sac and Montana don't deserve to be in anyway. Neither one of them could find 7 D1 wins this year, Sac couldn't even get 6. Get over it.

Perfect point, then I'm going to take a line from some of the east coast conference fans on here.siuham wrote:None.WrongleyAccused wrote:I'm in for Las Vegas, however, I would think your research points out some pretty clear ECB! Our conference is so dam tough, we just beat each other up!

Re: Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
Montana and Sac State wouldn't be within driving distance of Frisco either. They're both over 24 hour hours drive to Frisco. And, both those schools had 6 D-I wins and I don't think belonged in the playoffs. But, that's a discussion for another thread.
I think the FCS championship should be at a location that's reasonably close to most of the schools.
Move it to Las Vegas and you get maybe 8-10k fans. Would be fun, though.

My experience with the online time estimators, is they are off approx 10-15 minutes for every hour. Maybe because I usually drive 5 mph over the posted speed limit.

Which is why Montana beat Cal Poly, right?WrongleyAccused wrote:Perfect point, then I'm going to take a line from some of the east coast conference fans on here.siuham wrote:

Wait. No. Both teams lost their OOC game.

I would be for Vegas as well. But Frisco is still better than Chatty. More to do in the area, should hopefully be warmer, and flights would be a lot easier.

Google maps has 3:42 for the drive from Cedar Falls to Macomb, ILGil Dobie wrote:My experience with the online time estimators, is they are off approx 10-15 minutes for every hour. Maybe because I usually drive 5 mph over the posted speed limit.
I made it in 3 hours on the dot yesterday.

No doubt. Doesn't really change the results, though. Chattanooga made much more sense for the vast majority of FCS. Teams way out west have to fly regardless.Gil Dobie wrote:My experience with the online time estimators, is they are off approx 10-15 minutes for every hour. I think that the money and other benefits that Frisco, Dallas Area, and Texas threw into it will far outweigh what Chatty has done in the past.

Can Delaware and App State fans venture a guess of the number of fans each team would travel to Frisco? Could you count on 10,000 fans from those schools combined?
That matchup is the best realistic scenario for Frisco.

HMM, and the Rose Bowl was in USC's backdoor but TX had to fly. Give it a rest folks. It's in Frisco for 3 years..deal with it. This argument has been going on all year and the ECB fans are still whining because they didn't get their way. They have to have 3 years where it isn't convenient for them and a pita for the west teams and you all have not let up on this. Bet you didn't want to share your toys with out of state cousins when you were a kid either.
For the record. It's Nov 21 and it was 81 today in Austin.

Re: Playoff teams proximity to Chatty and Frisco
I see SIU is conveniently choosing to overlook extenuating circumstances.
The point is probably moot anyway because even had we won last night, it was probably going to take a triple-digit shutout to get us in, and even that might not have been enough.

Not that anything you say has any validity.

Who cares, we would have to get on plane to go anywhere besides EWU, so you should have to too

Well is anyone from west of say, the CAA or Boone, NC going to make a dent in the bracket?CatMom wrote:cats2506 - they don't want fair they want what's best (easiest) for themcats2506 wrote:Who cares, we would have to get on plane to go anywhere besides EWU, so you should have to too
Why wouldn't you want to accomodate the teams that actually play in the game?

Exactly. It's ok for those teams to always have to fly but don't do that to an east coast team. God forbid.PenthouseClosedEnd wrote:Those fans would have to fly either way, no?clenz wrote: Well, there are 2 seeded teams from the Big Sky conference...
Do you think SFA would bus to Chatty or that we would have in 2005? Getting out of TX, alone, is a 7-8 hour trip in a car (from San Marcos. AR is 4 hours and then another 3 (or so to Chatty). No idea what a bus trip would take.
