As a Bison fan I'm just damned excited to see the realization of a decade-long dream. finally, back in the playoffs.

All true TTBF... after 9/11 the NCAA stated in writing that the brackets would be regionalized and that's exactly what they've done.

And to anybody crying and complaining about not getting into the tournament... EVERY single team in the country started out 0-0 and controlled their own destiny... win more games of STFU.

I think the same can be said for the seedings. Everyone in the playoffs has a chance to win it. If you have a championship team, you need to prove you can beat anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Let's play the games.

The Tribe is 3-0 against playoff participants.
Can anyone top that?

Had LU played Delaware State and a DII instead of RMU and JMU, and won both those games to be 10-1 (9-1 FCS) with a Ball State win, would they have been in?

If so, what does that say about scheduling? Why try and schedule up, when scheduling down benefits you more?
this year it might have helped... but not every season is going to find a weak backend of the bracket selection. Scheduling up is only beneficial if you actually win the games.

Ok, and they also have one more loss than 9-2 UD, MSU, and EWU. Should we all ignore that?

You asked why, and I gave you one reason. Probably one of many that the committee considered.

(can't take MSU's spot though, as we can't play NDSU in our first game, but we can swap with EWU).

that would put MSU and EWU on opposite sides of the bracket. problem solved. (go ahead and have your AD make the call to the NCAA, I'll get Dannen to do the same)
Agreed, #1 EWU got a better seed than #16 UNI.
Wasn't trying to imply that UNI should get a top 5 seed.
People were complaining about EWU potentially having to face MSU in the quarters, and I was offering a remedy to that.

Close enough. I was going to say that Montana is the Atlanta Braves of FCS.

My Thoughts

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

1 - The 10 teams that got at-larges were the 10 I figured would get at-larges.

2 - Are we certain SC State was the last team in (I didn't watch the show—did they say that definitively)? When I was thinking about this last night, I figured NoDak State was the least safe of those 10.

3 - Stephen F. Austin should have got a seed. I figured they'd be #2 or #3.

4 - Delaware shouldn't have a seed. I think the committee overlooked their weak non-conference schedule. I would put SFA & Wofford ahead of them, in addition to the other 4 that did get seeds.

5 - SC State is quite unlucky when it comes to home games. They have good fan support (14,862 fpg), but keep getting paired with popular, high-biddin' SoCon teams. Yet Bethune-Cookman, who averages a mediocre 6206 fpg, happens to be paired with one of those northeast teams with tepid support (UNH).

NDSU was the last team in. SCSU was #19.

They also have two losses to non-playoff FCS teams. Half the field can top that.

Probably more the Dodgers, as the Dodgers would have better TV ratings than the Braves.

Perhaps our eight-game, much more difficult conference schedule had something to do with it?

The only real shocker was CCU getting the auto. I had asked the question last week if they could get it and nobody answered so I figured no. Pioneer teams that don't play anybody OOC don't deserve a spot. Liberty had their chance and blew it. I do think UD at #3 was a gift, but their only two losses were a missed FG to the #2 seed and an OT game to another playoff team that just happens to be their rival. Overall I think the committee got it right. :thumb:

#1 App - Losses against GSU & Florida
#2 W&M - Losses against 6-5 UMASS, FBS UNC, and 6-5 JMU.
#3 UD - Losses against W&M and Nova
#4 MSU - Losses against FBS Wazzu, and 6-5 NAU
#5 EWU - Losses to #4 seed MSU, and 10-1 Nevada, ranked #18 in FBS
Correct.....nor is it any more deserving than the other 4 (well, 3..you got hosed on W&M...more losses & same lackluster fan support)....

Had a crazy weekend and didn't even see the bracket until.

My thoughts -
NDSU was a lock after the UMass and Richmond losses.

SCSU lucked into the playoffs, they do no have a playoff worthy resume.

The NCAA made a few things clear:

1. its better to play no one, lose to team you are supposed to lose and have zero good wins then it is to play up and win some games (SCST vs. LibertY).

2. its better to play no one, lose to the team you are supposed to lose to and have zero good wins..........if you're willing to pay for full scholarships (SCST vs. Jacksonville).

3. The NCAA wants the least amount of teams from the lower conferences in the 2nd round as posslbe (e.g. RMU not playing Lehigh).....

Anyway, looking forward to the playoffs.

All the teams selected (even those questionable ones) now have the chance to prove it on the field.

PFL fans - get your part-time Commissioner to start actually doing some work for you and get that AQ paperwork in for next year. :thumb:

Kind of the opposite of the whole uproar about Boise State playing TCU (or whatever happened last year, and could possibly happen this year. I follow the BCS about as closely as most FBS fans follow the FCS)

It was kind of tough to pair anyone in the first round due to 3 MVFC teams that they didn't want playing each other.

Except SEMO, Jacksonville St. and Betuune Cookman could have just as easily (and probably more deserving) been in the opening round.

Yep, like I put on the MEAC thread, it was obvious that from now on, you either have to have seven wins in one of the big conferences or at least eight wins if you're in a "weaker" conference and the PFL is out until they get an auotbid.
