Holy crap this SCSU team is pathetic.

UMass would have been a much better pick for a playoff slot.

SC State doesn't belong in the playoffs. Georgia Southern is a great team, and not to take away from their victory today, but SC State was completely overwhelmed

Thank goodness GSU got them, for this is usually the level of team the CAA gets in the first round.

Although, I will admit, the CAA got a tough opening round draw this year...finally.

The SoCon also draws the MEAC junk. CAA always draws the Patriot. Lehigh's coach, before the game, said he was happy to not have to face a CAA team.

Must be the beer talking, but congrats to the Eagles for handily dispatching the 'dogs. The REAL GSU will be a force in the SoCon for the next couple of years for certain. :thumb:

As an FCS fan i have mixed feelings on that game.

On the one hand, I really want the MEAC to remain a part of the playoffs. First, it reinforces the legitimacy of the entire system - a stark contrast to the FBS. Second, it gives their players a real chance to play for something meaningful. Third, Hampton has had some good teams in recent memory, and there is no way to predict if a MEAC team can improve to a point where they are competitive with the top 3 from the So Con or the CAA or the Big Sky.

On the other hand, days like today show that disparity in resources and expenditures make a tremendous difference. One thing I always notice when watching the CAA bigs (Umass, UNH, WM, UR, Nova, JMU, Maine, etc) play against their first round opponents is the difference the resources spent on strength training and conditioning makes, as well as facilities - in this game it was even more staggering.

Thoughts anyone?

I think you're overreacting a bit - SCSU gave ASU all they could handle the last two years in the opening round, so I think the MEAC is sound. I don't think this is the same caliber of team we've seen the last couple of years, but we SoCon folks know that GSU is no slouch either. Don't turn a solid win from a good GSU team into more than it is. :twocents:

I think a lot depends on population base and the University.

Not to sound like a turd, but why would a kid choose any of the CAA teams, other than prestige? Why would a kid want to play at Villanova in front of 8,500 people in a horrific stadium?

Why not SC State (14,862)? Only Delaware and James Madison of the CAA outdrew SC State at the gate.

Essentially, the draw to the MEAC is not nearly as high as it is to a more well known and respected East Coast team.

Not true.. since 2000 (including this year) here's a list of the leagues and the number of times played by the CAA in the 1st round..

MEAC - 5
SoCon - 9
OV - 1
Patriot - 10
MVC - 6
Southland - 3
Big Sky - 2

that's a total of 36 games and only 5 played vs the MEAC and don't try to sell the Patriot short.. acoording to today's UNI broadcast.. the Pat is now 3-0 vs the MVC.

Somebody better send this in an email to the MEAC office ASAP, because I have a feeling that if (when  ) BCU gets smoked next week that the MEAC/SWAC bowl game talk will start to heat up once again.

The MEAC is definitely at a crossroads here...a LOT of changes will be thrown around in the offseason. We'll just have to continue to live with the burden of being the WORST FCS playoff conference.

I think the MEAC is a great conference with strong history behind it, and some of the best atmospheres in FCS football. But this year, they simply didn't deserve an at-large and it showed today. Hopefully they'll be back stronger than ever next season, and will actually schedule quality games OOC instead of these "rivalries" with D2 schools.

Anyways, congrats to GSU!!!

The OVC hasn't won yet and Bethune has yet to play. Plus, if NDSU doesn't turn their game with Robert Morris around, the MVFC will easily get the moniker as worst playoff conference this year.

Good to finally get a playoff win. If Jaybo Shaw is cleared by the team physician to play then GSU-W&M is the game of the week for the round of 16.

The Big South didn't get three teams in that have completely struggled to beat their opponents.
