Great News For Gov Haters!

Post by 93henfan »

Federal pay is going to be frozen for two years for civilians. You can all do a little victory dance as we get no raise while Wall Street execs at bailout firms continue to pay themselves millions in bonuses. Yay for the private sector!

President Obama will announce Monday morning that he wants to freeze pay for federal employees for the next two years, a move the administration says would save more than $5 billion between now and 2012.

The freeze would not apply to military personnel but rather to all other civilian employees on the federal payroll. Congress would have to approve the proposal in order for it to take effect.

The plan is part of Obama's effort to contain the $1.3 trillion federal deficit, and will be followed by more proposals for spending reductions over the next few months, White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said Monday morning.

That sucks, BUT if it is to help control the deficit....would it be worth it?

In related news, Federal employees are all keeping their jobs while hundreds of thousands in the private sector are fired or laid off.

They'd be fired if they didn't include any minorities.

No, I haven't forgotten my roots. But a federal employee is a federal employee is a federal employee. Share the pain equally.

No, I'm being for seriousness. This really happened. All you have to do is say "I think I need to admit myself for mental health problems".

That ship has sailed. Military has been getting bigger raises than us for years. We are the most palatable whipping bitches. Congress passes their raise first and then comes after the lunchpale feds. How convenient?

No chance 93. They are rare for the Feds. Reductions in force for the Feds usually occurs when somebody leaves or retires and their position isn't filled... ie hiring freezes. :tothehand:

You need to brush up on your fed employment reading. RIFs happen all the time, especially in the age of BRAC.

There is also a hiring freeze in effect as well.

Also, it's about time this move happened. Local and state government employees across the country have had to deal with layoffs, pay cuts and pay freezes.

You ladies discuss this amongst yourselves. I need to hit the road. I expect the anti-gov talk to be hot and heavy by the time I check back in.

BTW, does not effect promotions to a new level of pay.

Or bonuses.

Any why are postal workers exempt? Do they even know how to calculate a cost-of-living annual raise?

NO ONE in my company has had a pay raise in the last couple of years (unless it was a promotion). Also, they took away the 3% 401K match. Sorry, but you'll get no tears out of me on this.

Who is anti-gov? We're merely stating that one of the perks to Federal jobs is the job security. There are some people trying to pass legislation to have a reduction in force, but I'm sure you realize how hard it is to pass legislation to have any significan RIFs... then again, based on your posts above.. :|

Well one thing's for sure... This is America, so if the government types don't like the fact that they won't be getting a raise for two years they are absolutely free to pursue an occupation or vocation where they can get raises, or better yet control their own earnings by taking a job where they are paid based on production- not a clock, tenure, or union contract.
