Ohio State's schedule is as shitty as Boise's. They played a very mediocre Miami and a good Wisconsin team. And they lost to Wisconsin.
Are you seriously comparing the WAC to the Big Ten? When Colorado waxed Hawaii and Ole Miss beat Fresno State? And Nevada lost to Hawaii? And Boise State's best win is over a team that lost to an FCS team not in the playoffs?

The Big Ten might have some serious delusions of grandeur, but the WAC can't hold a candle to the Big Ten, and OSU would stomp a mudhole in BSU if they played.
And a couple years ago Oklahoma was going to stomp a mudhole in them too, right?

Using OSU to make your argument simply makes your argument laughable. Their best win is against a 7-5 Iowa team, and they lost to the only real team on their schedule.

I truly hope OSU goes to the Rose Bowl and gets their ASS handed to them this year.

Wisconsin gets the Rose Bowl bid.

Ohio State is likely to go to the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas

Hmm, ok let's have a looksy at the SOS of the top 10 teams.

1. Oregon (SOS - 70)
2. Auburn (SOS - 6)
3. TCU (SOS - 69)
4. Wisconsin (SOS - 55)
5. Stanford (SOS - 51)
6. Ohio State (SOS - 48)
7. Michigan State (SOS - 34)
8. Arkansas (SOS - 2)
9. LSU (SOS - 7)
10. Boise State (SOS - 49)

Yeah Ohio State's schedule sucks, even though there's 5 teams in the top 10 that have worse ones. :coffee:

The problem with SOS is that it is a self fullfilling prophecy. Someone tells you that the Big 10 is good, and then gives them alot of credit for playing each other.

The sample size for college football is too small (only 12 regular season games, most in conference) to truly get an accurate picture of just how tough a schedule really is.

Where did you get that SOS from, Willie? I read the yesterday were TCU was in the 40s, and OSU was in the 70s.. Oregon in the 70s too, I believe.

outside of the top 3 and MAYBE USC the PAC 10 is trash. So is Tennessee. 3 quality wins by Oregon if that?

Yeah, a lot of the top teams did have pretty easy schedules, I think a lot of what AZ was pointing out was that OSU doesn't really have a marquee win. Their schedule has been pretty comparable with most other top 10 teams but they lost their only game (albeit on the road) that they played against elite competition. The same could be said of Stanford. TCU hasn't played anyone at all but all of the other teams in the top 10 have beaten at least one other very good football team. I agree with 12 games being far too small of a sample size to judge SOS on, but I think it would be safe to say that Auburn has unquestionably had the most difficult path to the title game of any of the other teams up there and that TCU has probably had the easiest (despite what any numbers might say).

Edit: As for the Pac-10 being "trash" after the top 4 I would disagree. Even the Cougs have been a reasonably decent football team in the latter half of the season. The Pac-10's problem is that WSU is the only true cellar dweller and that Stanford and Oregon are so dominant. The 7 teams in the middle are so equally matched that they have really beaten up on each other. There are no really good football teams in that bunch (though Arizona looked the part during the early portion of the season) but there aren't any truly bad ones either. The Pac-10 wasn't a murderers row, but there were no weeks that teams could fall asleep on either. I (a huge homer) personally think the Pac-10 would match up favorably with any other conference out there. The top 2 are as good or better than any other conference and while the Pac-10 would likely lose match-ups with the 3rd-5th place or so teams of other conferences I think the 6-9 spots are probably better than just about any other league. I'm not sure what any of this has to do with Ohio State's president being a douche.

So OSU and Boise's schedules are equally soft, showing that OSU's President is a douche. Thanks Willie

Willie, that's similar to the argument about why the Griz SOS is lower than the rest of the BSC. It's because they don't get to play themselves....Wisconsin's SOS is high because they play Ohio State. Ohio State's SOS is high because they play Wisconsin. Both teams are average, but so's the rest of the Big 10. See Arkansas? They roll OSU by 17 in any bowl. Take that to the bank.

Yeah I don't know why AZ thinks OSU/Michigan wasn't a big one. Or OSU/PSU. Or...nvm I won't continue because he's set on the Big Ten being dogshit.

Must not have been Penn State who beat LSU last year in the bowl game. The Big 10 has a winning record vs the SEC this decade, and will come out on top in the bowls between the 2 this year.

The only thing "big" about the OSU/Michigan game was that it was the 107th time they've played it. Michigan is HARDLY what I'd call competitive....same with Penn State. If THAT'S the best you've got, you're gonna lose that argument every time.

Again, OSU lost to the only difficult team on their schedule. And THAT team got lucky to not lose at home to a 4-7 Arizona State team.

AZ: I would agree with you about Michigan, but not so much with Penn State. While this may be a semi-down year for them, this is nothing compared to the long cellar-dewlling stretch they went through just a decade ago. And as noted earlier in this thread, they DID beat perennial SEC front-runner LSU in a New Year's bowl game. They are also bowl eligible this year. (Though, admittedly, that's not such a big deal this year.) There seems to be no guarantee that the "downness" (to coin a word) will continue next year. JoePa is too good a coach to stay away from 10 wins for too long.
