There are already RIFs ongoing and more to come. Like I said, they happen all the time. There's no "trying" about it.

Now, if you want to say they are not "significant", that is a new matter of debate altogether and I may just happen to agree with you.

Should be easy to find out how many goverment employees get RIF'd if it happens all the time. I can't find it anywhere.

BTW, when was the last time you saw anything like this in the private sector?...

Well, nothing newsworthy here. Most places froze pay two years ago (among hiring freezes and benefit reduction such as 401k matching being cut). On the bright side, many are now coming out of those freezes (my company has lifted everything) - nothing wrong with federal employees sharing in the hardship if it helps hold down the deficit.

A quick google search will show you that the Air Force Chaplain force was just announced for RIF a few days ago. I could go on, but there's no real need to.

Typical of Congress not to share the pain. Best benefits in the federal government with none of the detriments. Bunch of selfish mothergrabbers. (Note to Willie: I actually typed in the whole "MF bomb" and got away with it. What gives?)

I was just doing the math on this. Assuming the average of our raises for the last ten years and me working another thirty years until I retire, Obama just took about $200K away from me. Thanks dude.

I've got no problem with this (government employee that I am)...

What really honks me is the Prez announces this today in a political ploy to beat the Republicans who have been calling for it recently...ahead of his "commission" that will announce other proposed cuts...

So, in one sense, 93 is correct in that feds are being used...

Mr. President...why not announce a whole series of cuts, to include freezing fed pay...rather than grand-standing with this one???

Exactly. This freeze, which directly impacts our families, is but a drop in the bucket. It wouldn't pay for a week of our current two-front war. Real savings will come from a reduction in government rather than a freeze on hard-working, decent taxpayers' salaries.

Silly me, I thought Obama ran on a platform of change.

And I thought he was the one who told his opponents...er...enemies, that he, "won" so he didn't have to include them in anything. And now he's playing the same old game of politics and...after his party lost, calling for cooperation.

Screw him and his supporters.

Give an example of a Reduction in Force going on and describe how it is proceeding. By that I mean let us know if there are people who are in the middles of their careers who are being "let go" or if they are just letting attrition through people leaving voluntarily or retiring go unreplaced.

Even that I doubt. Give us some specifics on some examples.

Why? Has he given up the office which he won with that promise?

What candidate doesn't promise change and project himself/herself as an Washington outsider?

I'll eat my hair off my scalp if there has been close to a comparable number of RIFs in the state governments as there is in the federal government. And what about furlough days? You know, an actual cuts in pay instead of just freezes on pay raises? Don't know anyone working at the state government who hasn't had them, but I don't know any federal employees who have.

I guess you don't live in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We had 1 furlough day this year, and about 600 state employees have been laid off.
