********3rd DOWN CONVERSIONS: GAC OFFICIAL RELEASE******************

MSU 153 trys 72 made
NDSU 146 tries 42 made.

Looks like the Cats pick up on average 2 more 3rd down conversions/game than NDSU.

Its a stat that can kill you and MSU has the advantage here. The difference is a very small margin. Insignificant according to some kids from some other schools.

On defense
MSU has had teams try 162 times on 3rd down and given up 69 first downs.

NDSU has had teams try 3rd down conversions 185 times with 66 conversions.

Again when you look at the total numbers 3rd down conversion is a wash. NDSU has had oppents try 185 third down conversions, 23 more times than MSU, and have given up 3 fewer conversions than MSU.

This isnt a stat that tips the scales before the game, at least for me, but it is a stat that might tell the tale in hind sight.

It turns out that 100% of the time, when the CATS or the bizon scored more than there opponent, they won the game. I also read somewhere that every time the CATS scored a touchdown it was worth 6 points. Given these stats, I think that I will be drinking booze at about 9:00 sat. SHUT UP!!!

What did you run z scores and p values for all those stats to determine whether they are significant or not?

The math is too complicated to go into here. Suffice it to say past performance is no guarantee of future result.

Every team NDSU has played this season has had far more impressive statistics than the BISON. The only areas where NDSU has been consistently better all surround defense and scoring. We have never had a better 3rd down conversion. more yards passing or running. We have had some success with the TOP and Turn overs, but TOs are again a stat associated with scoring.

The BISON win by:

1) Having a solid, physical defense
2) Having the offense get just enough
3) Scoring off turnovers
4) Having a better game plan than our opponents
5) Having a successful week of practice
6) Diet
7) Knowledge of the game
8) A Division 1 head coach not a lateral transfer

For the most part these are all qualitative distinctions, what some commonly call intangibles.

Cat2506 has done an impressive job of presenting the quantitive distinctions. These appear to be in favor of Montana State, ever so slightly.

If you are looking for the key to victory in the quantitive statistical analysis above I dont think you will find it. Look at the informative discussion on TDs allowed earlier in the thread and here:

ADVANTAGE NDSU:

NDSU has 4 defensive backs that combined get 1.7 INTS/game. MSUs 3 top guys dont even avg 0.5/game.

ADVANTAGE NDSU:

Top 4 sack leaders avg 1.62 sacks/day. MSU top 3 1.28

ADVANTAGE NDSU:

NDSU top 4 defenders avg. 2.73 tackles for a loss/game. MSU top 3 2.42

*****NOTE*****
MSU only has the top 3 defenders listed above because after the top 3 they become stylistically insignificant.
NDSU has more talented defense players.
*****END NOTE*****

Key to victory:

1) Hold the Cats down or stay with them. Be in a position to win late in the game
2) Win the TO battle

^^^^^NOTE FROM FABULOUS FARGO DOME^^^^
The NDSU Football Conglomerate wishes to extend its sincere appreciation for the hospitality of our hosts.

Conglomerate - noun -
1. anything composed of heterogeneous ( different in kind; unlike; incongruous) materials or elements.
2. a corporation consisting of a number of subsidiary companies or divisions in a variety of unrelated industries, usually as a result of merger or acquisition.

Figured it made no sense

That's kind of his theme. He used to try to pass that jive off with a straight face but he got called so often that he switched his schtick. All in good fun, and hell, if you throw enough bs out there sooner or later you'll be right.

Good luck to the Bison, the closer the game gets the more I can see the upset.

Stylistically it could be a smaller, slower version of the EWU/SIU game of '05 - a big physical MVC team vs a faster Big Sky team. McGhee and McNorton aren't Eric Meyers or Brandon Jacobs by any stretch but the type of game could be very similar.

I was there, hell of a game. Meyer put on a passing clinic and Jacobs put on a running one. The two of them were men among boys in that game.

Now that the statistical argument seems well in hand its time to address another concern:
2. a corporation consisting of a number of subsidiary companies or divisions in a variety of unrelated industries, usually as a result of merger or acquisition.
The NDSU Football Conglomerate is a disparate, but very functional network orbiting around the foundation of knowledge supporting "modern" football theory with prestigious headquarters deep under the stands of the Fabulous Fargo Dome. Believe me, the plush offices and well equipped research center have never seen a night like this one.

All season long there has been an activity level never seen. It has to be the difference between the big games in D2 and the Big games in the FCS and FBS. As you know The NDSU BISON are among the elite FCS Football Squads when it comes to its FBS record.

Im called away now but suffice it to say the wind is howling, the temperature is dropping, the snow is blowing and piling up. Its a night like none other in this the week of the "Big Game"

Well Catmom, Im sorry. You came on the thread with this:
Figured it made no sense
I felt personally attacked.

Then I realized you were:

Begging for an explanation concerning the NDSU Football Conglomerate, which by the way, controls and directs all of the NDSU football activities under the Presidents office, I responded as any gentleman would. I'm sorry you have taken issue with it.

HEART BREAK HOTEL!! Elvis.

If you want a nice comparison try The Rolling Stones: Baby (We Got a Good Thing Going)

The Dawg gets it. Sportsmanship of the highest order.
Its starting to look like a significant number of BISON fans are crossing the plains. Lakes will have the main camp. He is by far the most informed and interacting BISON fan on the road today.
LAKES is NDSUs Greatest Ambassador.
All BISON Fans headed for Bozeman should look for his flag. It will be a central meeting point and the approved camp of the Golden Arm Committee.
All sorts of hell raising is authorized. (www,bisonville.com)
