NCAA

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Re: Cam Newton Eligible
Even if Cam knew nothing about this (which I think everyone agrees is total BS) the precedent that this ruling sets is ridiculous....dad shops son for six figures and there is absolutely no punishment handed down by the NCAA? Understandably the investigation is still on-going but that is a dangerous line to walk for the NCAA.

Damon Stoudemire was ruled ineligible by the NCAA when his dad solicited improper benefits. He knew nothing about it.

The lower-than-anticipated slot led many to speculate that the committee may have been told by the NCAA’s Enforcement branch that Arizona All-American guard Damon Stoudamire may not regain his eligibility for the tournament.
Sources said Stoudamire, a preseason all-American, was under investigation because of the possibility his father might have accepted an airline ticket from a sports agent.

Such bullshit. HORRIBLE move by the NCAA.

If what you quote here is correct (and there's no reason to doubt it), there are at least two obvious conclusions here:Skjellyfetti wrote:Especially when there's precedent for the completely opposite...Shellin wrote:Even if Cam knew nothing about this (which I think everyone agrees is total BS) the precedent that this ruling sets is ridiculous....dad shops son for six figures and there is absolutely no punishment handed down by the NCAA? 1. Stoudamire and AZ should sue the NCAA for screwing them. This has the feel of the night Vince McMahon screwed Bret Hart.
2. The Newton thing smells of an anti-Boise/TCU B(C)$ screw job. Yet another justified lawsuit in the works....

Re: Cam Newton Eligible
Ted Miller (ESPN Pac-10 blogger) had some interesting thoughts on the Cam Newton issue when comparing it to the USC sanctions handed down for the Reggie Bush incident. I agree with him, if I were a USC fan I would be pissed if their appeal didn't get their violations dropped a little bit in the wake of this Newton ruling. Here's the link for that http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id ... aa-and-usc
I found this quote by USC A.D. Pat Haden to be particularly interesting:
I found this quote by USC A.D. Pat Haden to be particularly interesting:
“I was always told the parent is the child,” Haden said. “That’s what we’ve been telling our kids. If the parent does something inappropriate the child suffers the consequences.”

Re: Cam Newton Eligible
SEC talk radio is all over this in the South. From what I gather, the NCAA has declared Newton eligible based off of current evidence that is available. I do not believe this is the end of the story. Newton may get out of this alive, but I think Auburn may still be in some deep shit at the end of the day.

Haha the NCAA just screwed themselves. Looks like all the top programs will suddenly find themselves mysteriously swimming in talent.

On Bret's last night in WWE, he was in a championship match with Shawn Michaels. Michaels had a submission move on, but before Hart had a chance to either tap or escape, McMahon ordered the bell rung and the belt awarded to Michaels.SDHornet wrote:WTF!SuperHornet wrote: If what you quote here is correct (and there's no reason to doubt it), there are at least two obvious conclusions here:

So you're saying that this whole thing between Auburn/Newton and the NCAA is scripted?

Re: Cam Newton Eligible
How the NCAA makes these decisions is complete BS. Dez Bryant from OSU gets ruled ineligible last season for far less, in fact trivial reasons, than Newton, yet he still plays. Puzzling.

Re: Cam Newton Eligible
I'm telling you guys, don't expect anything to happen to Cam or Auburn until after they either lose a game or after the NC game. The NCAA/BCS needs Auburn in the NC game, because that's one less chance for one of the small schools (well, only TCU is left in that category) to get in. But once they lose or the season is completely over, expect a full onslaught of slinging poo to come their way.

The only thing consistent about the NCAA is the inconsistency and arbitrariness of how they make their decisions. One would thing they throw darts to come up with what they do.bluehenbillk wrote:How the NCAA makes these decisions is complete BS. Re: Cam Newton Eligible
You have this 100% wrong. It's not scripted, it's exactly the opposite. The NCAA is making shit up as they go along.SuperHornet wrote:Exactly. How els would one explain the 180 from the Bush scandal?JayJ79 wrote:So you're saying that this whole thing between Auburn/Newton and the NCAA is scripted?
If TCU wasn't undefeated there's a good chance that Newton would still be ineligible.
Re: Cam Newton Eligible
I'm glad sCam is eligible. That way, when Carolina bears Auburn tomorrow, their fan's won't be able to use "Newton didn't play." as an excuse.

I would love it if TCU and Boise State got to play some real talent. Maybe they would shuck the fuck up after the beat down.
