Seems like they may actually be choosing Russia BECAUSE of the olympics. Brazil is hosting the WC in 2014 and the summer olympics in 2016.

On the BBC they are bringing up the point that the FIFA inspection team that went to Qatar called the country "high risk" (being the Middle East, hardly a shock) - but $$$ does trump details like that.

Sorry. I was inferring that you left "safety" off your list of reasons to choose the U.S. not the other way around.
