That some genetic traits become magnified in isolated populations at remote locations with long, cold, dark winters and frequent inbreeding is my guess, but I don't have the scientific expertise to say for sure.
It's the same idea that the SLC used to promote all the time with their "We have much more team speed out there on the field that you guys in the XXX conference do and that's gonna haunt you on gameday".

It was mostly McNeese guys and SHSU guys that were always touting that but I saw a little bit of it last year from some SFA fans so once it gets bandied about a little and it becomes something that a fanbase can hold on to for hope it really perpetuates itself.

No matter how silly it looks to you when you watch the games.
Yeah, that team speed didn't help them out too much in the first round that year. :coffee: :D

I'm sorry here wingnut, I wasn't going to respond to anything you say but do you really believe that Weber, EWU and um are NOT pretty physical teams? I watched your game last week and will say that NDSU is a physical team, but its not like we dont have the same thing in the Big Sky. I believe that you are just saying it in the hopes that we will just be scared of you, well our OL has gone up against better and prevailed at the end of the day, Our DL is as tough and scrappy as any you will find. Get over it and move on to something new.

StOnge is exactly the guy that used to use the "speed" argument like JBB uses the "physical" argument so yes.

JBB does not have a chance of coming anywhere near close to the greatness of SuperHornet on SH's worst day.

Anyway, looking forward to a good game on Saturday, hope to see you at Sensor's, I'm guessing there will be a good group of Bison fans there who can't make the trip to Bozeman. Thanks for the welcome UAH. Willie, just for the record, I wasn't making fun of Concordia. I think it's a very good school and just like to bust balls about the whole beanie thing but thanks for supporting the cake eater image many have of the Cobbers although untrue in most cases, you certainly fit the mold.

Maybe I found a different Lemon Party. I think the analogy was spot on.

The Lemon Party of Canada (Parti Citron) is a frivolous Canadian party which has operated on a federal level, as well as provincially in Quebec.

Policies and platforms

The Lemon Party has pledged to:[4]
- Restructure Canada's economy to be centred on lemon production
- Support global warming so lemons can be grown in Canada
- Abolish Toronto
- Repeal the law of gravity

Its been something of a contentious week. Good points have been made and just like a rowdy road-house it got a little rough and tumble. I have cousins in Montana, up in the Malta area. Early settlers. I can sincerely say you are all "good fellas". You gave as good as you got, better maybe.

Matchup Saturday:

Fighter Boxer. If The Mighty BISON can strike hard and knock them on their heels so much the better but Im seeing a long afternoon. I think NDSU plays from behind most of the day. If its within 14 at the half, its not over. UM led by 21 or some damn thing like that.

I remember listening to that game. The Grizz were really knocking the stuffing out of the Herd. Near the end of the half Phil Hanson said that the BISON were taking some pretty big hits and if they didnt start giving it back it was going to be an ugly afternoon. Well, they started popping back, and hard.

The Jayhawks can hit. UNI can hit. WIU can hit.

Indiana State can play some offense. RMU has a hell of a QB that could throw to some very capable receivers and he could run too. They have some of the best skilled players we have seen this year but they don't have the scholarships to fill the line with strength and power.

You learn your lessons in games like the Illinois State game. TO killed us. We will see Air Mail Jensen for sure, but we could also see Jose Mohler too.

NDSU coaches made a fundamental error when they pulled Mohler prior to the Missu State game. Mohler had taken the team to 2 victories in a row. The change affected that momentum and its only now stabilizing. Brock Jensen needs to hit the receivers. Seems basic doesn't it.

No matter what the outcome Saturday should be a hell of a football game.

The Herd hits the road tomorrow.

PS. Didn't Montana State back out of a home/home with NDSU or something like that?

PSS. Montana State reminds of the Dale Lennon coached Southern Ill. Salukis.

Not bad, I might call the OL a push but I think NDSU has the DL category, sacks are close to the same but NDSU has a significant edge on QB hurries. NDSU has about 10 more QB hurries in their past five games than MSU has on their season. Seriously NDSU's DE Boyer and DT Gratzek have more QB hurries than MSU's defense combined.

Really I think the amount pressure of NDSU can generate will be the story of the game. You obviously can't let McGhee run around and make plays.

Hurries are too subjective a stat to be useful for analysis, IMO. Looking at various teams' stat pages, hurry numbers vary wildly for teams that have even sack numbers. I just think that certain scorers are more liberal with hurries than others.

NDSU's DLine is very good at getting a pass rush (better than MSU), but their ability to stop the run is questionable (MSU is better there).

Passing Attack

MSU - has an accurate QB with quick release and instincts to play the game. No single WR receiver stands out but a lot of quality depth so defenses can't focus on shutting down one receiver. Offensive line is very good at pass blocking and when they are not the QB is very good at extending plays

NDSU - offensive line is big and mobile (really like their Freshman RT) but it seemed to me that the QB really focused on Holloway (nice receiver) and screen game to make big plays. QB has a nice arm but his timing/accuracy was definitely off in his first game back. NDSU scheme wise should be easier to defend than what MSU brings to the table. NDSU does have a lot of talent like

Advantage MSU

Rushing Attack -

NDSU - tons of I-Formation and straight at you mentality with some pulling guards to open some stuff off tackle. They are very good at what they do and McNorton is a beast and Sigers is very dangerous. I would expect their typical run game to average 3-7 yards a pop.

MSU - Ton of inside zone, outside zone, mixed with I-formation where I formation seems to be working best this time of year but MSU will run everything. I don't expect MSU's line to get a push but they are very good at creating creases that eventually gets open. MSU' rushing attack will probably go 1, -2, 3, 2, 15 yards, -5, -2, 4, 40 yards. MSU's line is smaller, but they are usually very technically sound and every now and then they block things perfectly for the big play.

Advantage NDSU

I view NDSU defensive line and Gratzek a lot like Washington States defensive line that MSU faced earlier. WSU had a DT that kept blowing up plays for the Cats and Gratzek is on that level. MSU was able to move the ball that day and I don't think that NDSU can totally shut down MSU's offense.

Besides turnovers (which will probably decide the game)

For NDSU to win - Jensen and the passing attack has to be effective because MSU will load up to stop the run. NDSU can't rely soley on the rushing attack to beat MSU. A few plays made down the field could put NDSU in great position to win.

For MSU to win - Don't know how they are going to get it done but MSU needs to establish some sort of rushing attack to keep the offense in 3rd and short range. They need to be consistent for the full game and not just a half or a quarter.

Going to be a great game.
