Big Day for the SoCon

Post by 93henfan »

Congrats to SoCon fans on three victories in Round 2. Appy and Wofford were both should-win games IMHO but the Georgia Southern win is particularly impressive.

With W&M going down, Nova losing sizably early, and Delaware and UNH meeting each other next week, the CAA might be down to just one team in a week.

That's some SoCon chest-thumping material right there.

I'm willing to give W&M and the CAA the benefit of the doubt that maybe GSU is just better than we were in early October when we played Wofford, but if Wofford beats GSU twice in a row, then I'm sorry, but The SoCon > The CAA this year.

Actually, I hadn't checked the brackets and seen that GaSou and Woff are playing next week and then that winner plays the UNH-UD winner. I would wait until that semifinal before making any pronouncements about whose dick is biggest just yet.

I see Nova is coming back also.

Agreed. There is alot of football left to be played, but the SoCon is off to an early lead.

CAA fans do that year round, why should SoCon fans have to wait until the semis?

We were kind of basing it on actually winning the last two championships, four of the last seven by four different teams, and so on and so forth. :D

Not trying to get ahead of myself here but it could easily be an all SoCon National Championship game this year. No matter what, it's great to see the SoCon get some playoff respect this year outside of the APPS.

It could also be an all CAA final.

I'm hoping for a UD - ASU final myself, which is probably the most likely of any combination at this point because neither UD or ASU have to play a road game to get there.

No idea why people root for their conference mates. You recruit against them. I root for the Socon to lose every out of conference game.

A little further scrutiny reveals that the two SoCon at large teams eliminated two highly ranked conference champions on the road, with Georgia Southern's win over the #2 seed and champion of the top rated RPI conference being most impressive.

Didn't WIU win the MVFC? If so that mean the three SoCon teams sent home three conference champions yesterday, two in dominant fashion. Very impressive.

Yes, teams recuit against each other, but wouldn't you rather have a better pool of talent in which to compete? You can sell recruits on coming to the top conference in your classification. Do you not think a Florida, UGA, LSU, Auburn... do that?

Lehigh had the honor of sending the MVC Champ (UNI) packing with that win in the UNI Dome.

The SoCon got three teams in the playoffs this year. If you got your wish the SoCon would be a one bid conference with ASU getting the Auto Bid.

I understand that you don't like your conference rivals, but it's better for GSU if the other SoCon teams win OOC games.
