Red Sox Ownership & Red Sox Fans

Post by UNHWildCats »

Today could very well be the day that Red Sox fans turn on the ownership group led by John Henry.

Several weeks ago when the Red Sox owners bought Liverpool, fans began to wonder if that would hurt their baseball team down the road, and what has gone down today could very well make fans think it has.

The afternoon started with word that the Red Sox wouldn't go to 8 years with Adrian Gonzalez, a big bat the Sox have been looking for who was all but a member of the team already, deal off, back to San Diego for Gonzalez. Don't get me wrong here, I totally back the ownership in this case as they were giving up way to much to not have a guarantee of more than one season of Gonzalez.

The afternoon just got even worse as Jayson Werth has agreed to a 7-year $126 million deal with Washington, being outbid by the Yankees is one thing, to lose out to Washington is another.

In both cases along with Victor Martinez and in negotiations with Adrian Beltre, it all comes down to years... The Sox appear not willing to go the length these players want, but at some point they have to sit back and accept that they might have to sign a guy a season or two beyond what they want or they will come up empty this winter, and that wont sit well with fans at all.

Carl Crawford now needs to end up in a Red Sox jersey... and it better happen quickly before some fans turn on the ownership group.

Me? I say they go back to San Diego reignite the trade and give Gonzalez 7 years instead of the 8 he wants and the 6 they offered and up the annual value a bit to make him happy.
