Obama spent the last two years telling the right to go kindly FUCK themselves while he crammed through massive pieces of unread legislation that 55-60% of the American public wanted no part of. In fact, I distinctly recall a "summit" in which he not so subtlely reminded McCain that "WE WON", so sit down and shut the fuck up while I run this ship aground.

I don't always agree with AZ, but seriously, when people look back on Obama's first two years, they will never say that he spent the first two years trying to "placate the right, compromise, etc". Heck, the whole first year, with the stimulus and the health care, things that didn't need a single Republican vote, were done just that way, with no Republican support. IMO, the supermajority was one of the biggest problems with Obama's first two years - it gave way too much power to Pelosi and Reid and it actually turned the Democratic caucus in Congress against itself and resulted in a lot of infighting and little positive accomplishment. But the Republicans were basically bystanders to the wreckage - they didn't have any power to do anything but that.

The entire Donkey attitude during the last 8 years of Bush was to bash the entire right with "Bush sucks" as much as they possibly could. Then after Obama won, they were like, "We won. Shut up."
