Appa's OPINION does NOT translate into the GOP's NEED. What's more straightforward than that? I could say you "need" to go jump in a lake, but that wouldn't make it a true need. Simply my opinion. Same thing applies here. Appa is not the judge of the "needs" of the Republican Party.
Nor is Appa the author of the opinion piece referenced in this thread, merely bringing the thread to this board for discussion. Granted, I agree with former Republican Florida Representative Joe Scarborough who did pen this piece. And, quite frankly, believe that is Sarah Palin was swinging a pair of nuts betwixt her legs & went by the name of Steve Palin, you would probably be more open to agreeing to the points brought up in this opinion piece. :coffee:

I like Joe and agree with what he wrote. That does not excuse the Bush family for their leadership failures, and it only slightly diminishes Palin's criticisms of the Bushes.

Who is this "Appa" of whom we speak? Is the party of the third part the same as the party of the first part? Who's on second?

We do not disagree on your point! But the solution is not to deride the Tea Party or their candidates, which guarantees failure for the center-right.

You seem to assume that the Tea Party is incapable of learning from their mistakes. I disagree. They must be embraced and co-opted. The establishment types must acknowledge their mistakes and move towards the Tea Party.
 You need to get out more Nate, they are already being embraced and co-opted by the Republican establishment. That's why most Independents won't touch them with a ten-foot pole. The wack job Christian right is already indoctrinating them.

Regardless, our nation is hopelessly doomed. Tremendous leadership void, nothing but a circus. Addicted to credit and oil, owned by the Chinese and Saudis.

The day that nuke in a cargo container blows up in New York's harbor will be the day there is an all-out assault on the United States which will, thankfully, end her misery.

It is the Asian man's world, now.

1. Most independents voted Republican and continue to express support for Republican - and Tea Party - ideas.

2. To the extent that the Republican establishment ignores Tea Party ideas, they fail.

3. The Christian right is not perfect but not wack, either. You just get emotional at being rightfully called out and being held responsible for your many sins and failures, dawg.

The Christian Right becomes wack when they try to legislate morality under the "conservative" banner or undermine otherwise well-intended & qualified candidates for not passing a litmus test.

First of all, native, I would never belong to any "country club" that would have me as a member! Second, and seriously, I reject Palin's know-nothing approach to politics. You can be a conservative and intellectual to boot, or at least not flagrantly anti-intellectual. Palin, O'Donnell and their ilk are giving conservatism a bad name by depriving it of its seriousness and rational approach to public policy. As someone earlier in this thread pointed out, she's just a celebrity, and an unusually shallow one at that.
   I was hoping that post might elicit a response from you, IT!

While it is absurd to call Palin flagrantly anti-intellectual, neither is Palin an intellectual giant. She is run-of-the-mill intellectually for a politician. O'Donnel is unusually shallow, but Palin is not.

It is corruption and lack of discipline that has given conservatism a bad name, NOT Sarah Palin!

Sarah Palin is bright, charismatic, moderately experienced, and has taken advantage of her celebrity and adoring crowds to jump to the head of the line without the gravitas and accomplishments we might prefer. Her opportunity came only because of the corruption and lack of fiscal discipline among traditional Republican politicians, who must eat large quantities of humble pie and demonstrate believable levels of epiphany before they can or should be taken seriously by Palin, the Tea Party or Main Street Republicans.

Palin is not without achievement. Why do you dou dismiss her legitimate accomplishments as governor in challenging both the corruption of the traditional Republican pay-for-play culture in Alaska and the idiocy of the left-wing-nut culture? Sure, there are political arenas larger than Wasilla and the state of Alaska, but she came to the table with greater legitimate life accomplishments than did Obama.

No, Palin does NOT make Obama look like a Churchill. Internalizing and relentlessly regurgitating anti-American communist coffee klatch dogma does not make Obama or anyone else an intellectual, although it passes for most of the political class.

I agree that Palin is not the person to unite the GOP, but attacking Palin is not the answer.
native, before I start waving the "no mas" flag due to my inability to compete with either the length or the fervor of your posts, I will agree with you that Palin is brighter than O'Donnell. That said, she quit in the middle of her first term as governor of a small state, and whenever you start talking about "life accomplishments" I start thinking of the Irving Thalberg Award at the Oscars or the Veterans Committee of the Baseball HOF. Let's just agree to disagree, OK? :)

Why are you so certain that that RORO with a nuke will hit New York? If it's an Asian man's world as you say, wouldn't it be a whole lot easier for them to hit LA? There's already precedent for attacks on LA. They just don't get as much publicity as that Middle Eastern attack on NY, probably due to ECB.

Personally, I think that the idea that pushing back when Palin makes some goofy pronouncement will create a Tea Party backlash is overblown. I do think that the GOP could be a little more insistent that she rein in the 'you betcha' stuff without any significant loss of voting blocs.

I know a number of people (by no means a scientific representation...) who would call themselves Tea Partiers. None of them are particularly enthusiastic about Palin. The GOP might upset the yahoo vote, but then I wonder how much effect that might have.

One thing is for sure, neither side is willing to put the screws to its kook fringe.
