You need a new head coach that is going to work during season and off season, put a plan into place for recruiting and communicate with the staff. It could be a great place, great facilities, beautiful setting.

ElCid83 - I agree on the GWU specific message board but unless I'm mistaken, all of the teams such as Liberty, Wofford, Furman, etc. have one but it's done outside the program by individuals if I recall correctly. Almost all of them have some wording on their sites which says it's not affiliated with the college/university. Not sure why but I am sure someone can enlighten me. As for the next HC if I was a betting man, I would say that it's an under appreciated FCS coach who has been dismissed from his prior school or a D2 with a proven winning track record and one who can demonstrate that he has all the qualities that GWU believes they are looking for. I want the new guy to have fire on the sideline, in the locker room and on the practice field. Does that mean he has to be a as^%&hole all the time, no, but when he needs to yes.

It is true that message boards fall to the fans to be run. I started up the Liberty board. Frankly the group of fans in this thread could get a board up fairly easily similar to what VMi utilizes that costs nothing.

Thanks for the help Flamefan. Might take that up as a winter project.

I've heard that a couple of our current staff have put their names in the hat to replace Coach P. I have no problem with that situation, but, I want the candidate to be able to specifically address how they would change the current direction of the program. I've heard of the possibility of a former FBS coach or an up and coming DII. I'd also like to see us consider a current OC or DC in the CAA or Southern Conference with demonstrated [and recent] playoff experience. Wofford's assistants tend to be very loyal to Coach Ayers, but they obviously know how to do what they do well. I don't know the coaches at App. St., but Coach Elliot has been a tremendous asset at South Carolina this past year and is a major reason for successes this year [last night's debacle notwithstanding]. I also don't know the CAA coaches, but there is certainly a wealth of coaching talent there with playoff experience. Just an interview with some of these guys might provide us with some insight to help nudge our guys along.

Just some thoughts to consider. Ultimately, I will enthusiastically support GW's new coach and I am really looking forward to doing so.

ElCid83 - I like where you were going with the OC or DC and that's why I threw out the name of Scott Satterfield, former App. State Assistant (QB coach, Off. Play Caller) as ASU has no true OC or DC to keep harmony amongst their staff per Jerry Moore. Scott is now at Toledo as Co-Off. Coordinator but I believe he is a native of North Carolina, associated with a championship caliber program (ASU), mentored under one of the great coaches in Jerry Moore and definitely knows his way around recruiting wise. Young but not green and talented. Would he come to GWU, I don't know but if the $'s are right it could be a offer tough to turn down for him or whoever else for that matter. Rich Skroskie at Elon could be another good pick along those lines.

Just checked ESPN. No news on our new head coach. Maybe tomorrow??? Just kidding. I know this process will take a while, but it is hard to wait around.

Check out Kyle Gillenwater at JMU. Solid defensive stats, but he's from VA and may not want to leave. Of course, not too many defensive guys get a chance to be a head coach. In any event, he's getting it done at JMU and is deserving of a look.

With Coach Moore getting in advanced years, it's been my wish that Satterfield might be his replacement when he retires. Would love to see him get the G-W job for some head-coaching experience while re-establishing recruiting connections with the HS programs in this area. Obviously not the same reason you would want him as coach, but hey..... 8-) ;)

Furman message board says Bobby Lamb has put his name in the hopper at GWU. I'm a little divided on this one. No question he's a great guy and a good coach. It'll be interesting to see what he can do without Furman's financial resources. Of course, he could convince our administration to break loose some additional and much needed funding.

I am not divided on it at all.....if we can hire Lamb, it would be an incredible move! We'd probably see a home/home series with Furman again too, which would be a good thing as well.

Biggest draw back with Lamb is that he does not recruit this area. (Furmans roster only has 14 players from SC and 3 from NC) Great coach but I believe it is his choice not to recruit this area.

Remember, the academic regs at Furman are just a tad stronger than G-W, so Lamb would probably be able to recruit more local kids as a result.

You would think they had somebody in mind before they pulled the trigger. This couldn't have been a hasty decision.

Try contacting Chris or Willie on here. They have a number of school specific sites they have built using this platform.

94, my info is wait until mid-January. I know assistants are out recruiting right now. One can only imagine how difficult their task is right now with no head coach. I know that kids need to look at the school and not the coach, but that is easier said than done. I hope they can wrap up the process with a solid candidate before official visits start in January.

It's got to be tough for the assistants for two reasons...(1) like you said, selling the school, not the coach, which is easier at our level than say a big time FBS school, but still not an easy task and (2) the coaches own personal futures, being that pretty much most are lame ducks, they are recruiting for G-W, but have to be looking for other employment opportunities themselves, which makes it more unfair to them the longer G-W drags this out.

With all the Lamb news out there now, hopefully we get this situation finalized sooner rather than later....mid-January elcid would not be a good prospect for the program, no matter who we hire.....
