Villanova @ App State
Re: Villanova @ App State
Not sure about that call. Now you give Nova good field position.
Re: Villanova @ App State
Not in my book. They're clearly second.Fact wrote:are we really going to believe that Villanova with Szczur is the 3rd best team in the CAA?

Something up with the game? ESPN3 shows nothing but "The Event Will Resume Shortly".

Of course Nova is solid. They are a CAA team. They are not a bunch of weak kneed wussies from the Big Fluffy.EWURanger wrote:For as much **** as you Delaware folks give them, Nova sure looks like a damn solid football team to me.

Objectively (as much as possible) I think Delaware will have a really tough time with Georgia Southern.
They play with a serious attitude defensively and they dont give up much against the pass. They have a very very fast pass rush - their speed (not their size) was just as good as North Carolina when we played UNC; and they hit the receivers very hard. They really punched WM in the mouth. They will take away your running game.
Also, i think you guys will adjust better to the triple option than we did - you have better safeties (at least more experienced) but you will have the same challenge we did. Being used to defending spread and pro set offenses, the triple option is really tough to deal with because you have to completely change how you play. And dont let their record fool you. Mencken took over and brought in an offense that none of the guys had played; right now they are as good as anyone in the country. Keep in mind WM beat UR 41-3 two weeks before Ga Southern. Now we played flat, and our QB play was off, but even so they were flat out good.

I have yet to see a Delaware poster appear to take GaSou for granted. Of course they're a great team, and of course they have improved mightly over the course of the season with a very young roster.ttgwm02 wrote:Objectively (as much as possible) I think Delaware will have a really tough time with Georgia Southern.

That being said, I'm confident in Delaware's chances. We have seen the triple option a lot and we usually rise to the occasion. It will not be something novel to our defense, We've played the mastermind of the style (PJ) with an FBS roster (see Navy) and handled it well.
Our offense is very balanced. You can shut down our run if you choose and Devlin will pick you apart, or vice versa. Pick your poison.
We've lost twice. Once to you guys on a missed field goal and once to Nova in OT after giving up an opening kickoff return TD and an opening drive TD to spot Nova a 14-0 lead. I think we can compete with anyone.

GSU was very impressive.. but UD will likely play the option much tougher than did W&M. UD has seen the Navy option numerous times in recent seasons and they won't be run over as was W&M. Also your QB play vs GSU was very poor.. GSU had good pressure but there were plays to be made and W&M didn't make them. I expect that Devlin will make most of those opportinities when they arise.

We're not out of it... but we HAVE to stop nova on their opening drive and can only afford to give up 3-10 points maximum this half.

Re: Villanova @ App State
I agree with you. WM had not played against a triple option in years. UD used to see it every year. Plus, we really shat the bed. That being said, i'm glad UD is taking it seriously; i wonder if our kids did. Paulus was missed for the first time against Ga Southern. Callahan was a gutty, hard working kid who really knew the offense, but against defenses with a lot of speed the ball moved slowly and he led two of our best receivers (one receiver, one tight end) into devastating hits by sailing the ball. Paulus will be special next year, like Devlin this year.
Re: Villanova @ App State
Yep. App is a momentum-based, quick strike team. You guys need to carpe diem.Skjellyfetti wrote:We're not out of it... but we HAVE to stop nova on their opening drive and can only afford to give up 3-10 points maximum this half.
The problem is, I'm pretty sure #4 from Villanova will be coming back out of the tunnel for the second half.

You pretty much have to stop Nova the entire 2d half.. anything more than a TD will pretty much start the fat lady singing.Skjellyfetti wrote:We're not out of it... but we HAVE to stop nova on their opening drive and can only afford to give up 3-10 points maximum this half.

I think we can still give up a touchdown and win... just not on their opening drive. Review this game... particularly the 3rd and 4th quarter. It's hard for us to be "out" of a game.ChickenMan wrote: You pretty much have to stop Nova the entire 2d half.. anything more than a TD will pretty much start the fat lady singing.

Aight, good stop defense. Now offense needs to find its rhythm.

The dancing and razzle-dazzle never seems to play well against a CAA defense. We're more a north-south conference in that regard.

App needs a running game.. they can't beat Nova throwing all the time.
