5 years $100 million range. Kudos to Lee for leaving so much on the table to sign where he enjoyed playing

really makes u wonder if how the fans treated his wife during that game played any role in this.93henfan wrote:And kudos to Yankees fans for making him not want to play there.UNHWildCats wrote:5 years $100 million range. Kudos to Lee for leaving so much on the table to sign where he enjoyed playing

I was hoping he would return to the Rangers. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Single A) are now an affiliate of the Texas Rangers and Coastal Carolina is playing the Texas Rangers in an exhibition in March at Pelicans BB&T Coastal Field.

Yeah, spitting on peoples' wives isn't necessarily the way to lure them.UNHWildCats wrote:really makes u wonder if how the fans treated his wife during that game played any role in this.93henfan wrote:

Re: Cliff Lee
I believe that they do. It's prorated over 162 games. For example, a Phillie player will pay Phila/PA taxes for 81 out of 162 games, NY taxes for every game in NY etc.SuperHornet wrote:An argument could be made that each MLB player earns $$ in something like 16 states, one or two provinces, and D.C. Based on your argument, every one of them could charge tax on every MLB player, manager, etc.UNHWildCats wrote:
If you work in a state that has a income tax but dont live there, you still pay the tax. If you live in a state with an income tax and work in one that doesnt, most if not all of those states will charge you their income tax even if you dont work there.
If you work in state with an income tax and live in another with an income tax, the state you live in usually gives u a credit so you arent drained twice for taxes, but the state you work in gets precedent.

Didn't one of the Yankee announcer's question whether or not Lee was a cheater during the playoffs? If so, that couldn't have helped.UNHWildCats wrote:really makes u wonder if how the fans treated his wife during that game played any role in this.93henfan wrote:

I was just trying to find Kay's quote and I came across this...BlueHen86 wrote:Didn't one of the Yankee announcer's question whether or not Lee was a cheater during the playoffs? If the yankees offer him the most money by more than a negligible amount, he's not going to leave money on the table because they tried to make him change his hat.
Kay insists the combination of resin on Lee's hat and the pitcher's sweat produces a "tackiness," making it easier to grip the ball. "I would think that's illegal," Kay said on 1050 Wednesday. "If I'm Joe Girardi, I'm telling the umpires he (Lee) has got to wear another hat."

With Vesting option, Texas offer was about $10 million higher than NYY.

I forget if it was the Yanks that bitched about the tacky stuff on Blanton's hat in the World Series.

Re: phiLEEdelphia! Cliff Lee Agrees To Return To PhilLEEs
Anyone who is dumb enough to leave a guaranteed 2 years and $50 million deserves to play before the second worst fanbase in America. This team traded him away last year and then offers him a deal much worse than other deals on the table, and he takes it? Where is his sense of pride?
Lee's like that guy who crawls back to his old girlfriend on HER terms. We all know that story never ends well.
Lee's got no self respect and a guy like that would have been a flop in New York. He is a great fit for the biggest losers in MLB history.

It's that kind of arrogance that probably kept Lee out of NY in the first place. Maybe Lee's pride kept him from signing with a team whose fans were unkind to his wife (must be the worst fan base in sports) and whose announcers called him a cheater.
He's making enough money, kudos for him for taking less so that he can pitch in a place where he and his family will be happy.
