Hard to imagine either East division being within 10 games end of August.

Reminds me of last year, with the assumed WS between the Yankees and Phillies.

+1, Although at this point I really don't think there will be a team in the NL that can beat the Phillies in a playoff series assuming all of those guys stay healthy. That rotation is ludicrous now. That's why the play the games though.DJH wrote:Reminds me of last year, with the assumed WS between the Yankees and Phillies.

Even with Cliff Lee I don't think the Phillies would have beaten the Giants last year. The Giants as a team were just too clutch. Their pitching shut the Phils down and the Giants got the big hit when they needed it. It was their year.UNHWildCats wrote:Oh I agree... anything can happen, i was just having a bit of fun here... but seriously.... I agree that adding Lee makes the Phils as close to a lock as there is for the playoffs, but once the playoffs start anything can, and usually does, happen.

Agreed - playoffs are just a crap shoot at times. But with Lee, we get to enjoy 162 games and half the year being the team to beat in the NL. That's a fun way to spend a summer. I don't know about that. The Diamondbacks have signed Melvin Mora and Mike Hampton and JJ Putz.GannonFan wrote:Agreed - playoffs are just a crap shoot at times. I thought this was going to be a Phillies parade thread. Red Sox? You have to make the playoffs first...

Re: MLB Cancels Season...
the Phillies - yes... the Sox... doubt it.
If the Twins can pull either Pavano or Blanton (or, in the dream scenario Grienke) - re-sign Thome and figure out a bit of the bullpen... they'll be formidable.
btw - i really hope the sawks sign the entirety of the Twins bullpen from last year (Fuentes, Guerrier and Crain) because honestly the Crain-wreck will be the most loathed man in Boston by mid-season. while i hate to see Guerrier go - he's the best middle reliever you've never heard of... I don't know how pitching against the AL East will suit him.

But the difference is the Phils will be 10+ games ahead of the rest of the NL and the Sox will be only 10+ games ahead of Baltimore.UNHWildCats wrote:Boston and Philly should easily be 10+ games ahead by the end of August.
