Here's something I'll never understand: Why would you go to school for 4-7 years, rack up $100,000 + in student loans, to go into a career field that pays $25,000 per year? I seriously question the intelligence level of ANYONE who does that. My wife used to work with a Harvard grad who got a degree in journalism from Harvard. What a complete fucking idiot to waste a Harvard education on JOURNALISM while all her classmates were majoring in getting rich.

Again, agreed with that statement Z. If I could go back and do it all over again I would have gone and gotten my 2 year police science degree right after high school, rather than a BA then going back.

There is a lot of research being done on this subject as well. There is a lot of pressure on kids to go to college, and a lot of kids go to college just to make their families happy. They have no idea what they want to do, and could easily make a living without going to school. However, there is a major push in society that "you are worthless to society unless you have at least a bachelors degree". I fell victim to that, well that and I wanted to play football in college.

As it turns out I may not need my police science degree after all, so I'll save myself that money...maybe. I put an application into the Waterloo Police Department and was told that if I could pass the physical and emotional (yeah, make your damn jokes) tests I would have a 98% chance of being hired. That is assuming there were no applicants that had prior police experience.

The sad part is I have an AA and a BA and I feel like complete shit for getting both.

I took a loan app for somebody with close to $200k in student loans and they were working for a non-profit for $50,000. Kudos to them for wanting to work at a non-profit, but they didn't need to go to an expensive college to land that job.

I agree. One of the best things I ever learned in college, that teaching methods, interpretation and experience aside, the English, History, Math, Science that you learn at Arizona State, AppState or Coastal is really no different than that of a Ivy Leaque School.
