Joe is living down to the reputation that D1B created for him!GannonFan wrote:Man, just getting to watch Joltin Joe implode with such bitter resentment is almost as good as Cliff Lee signing with the Phils. There's nothing better than seeing a NY fan grind his teeth and yell at walls when they can't just throw money at somebody and get them. And to think, pitchers and catchers don't report for another 2.5 months, so we get to watch Joe go through all the stages of grief during that time. Especially considering that AJ Burnett is still the Yanks 3rd pitcher!!!![]()

the NY Mets have contacted Congress and asked if they would build that bridge to nowhere in Queens... They told Congress they will use it as a bridge to 2016.

Ruben Amaro Jr is the real genius in all of this...
my distaste for the deals on the table all had to do with giving a 31 year old pitcher a 7 year deal... Phillies get him for 5 - perfect... if he still wants to pitch at 36 and has anything left - re-sign...
btw - just a thought on why:
cliff lee's son has leukemia in remission - Philadelphia has one of the best children's hospitals in the country. that kind of stuff can't be quantified in dollars, but I'll bet it's one of the things that persuaded him.

Well, it's not like he's going to be hurting with what the Phils are paying him.JMU DJ wrote:JoltinJoe wrote:They offered him $160M for 7 years. How did I know he was as dumb as you?

Red Sox may deserve an assist here. Apparently the Phillies contacted them last night seeing if they had interest in Blanton and they said yes... they talked a bit. Today the Red Sox are saying they have no interest in Blanton.

Man I love this!! Saw the news at 1:00am this morning & couldn't goto sleep for like an hour. I'm 41 years old & can't remember a more dominant rotation. The Phils will probably look to move players now - Blanton/Kendrick/Ibanez are the ones I'm hearing today. All we need right now is some right-handed OF bat(s) and we'll be fine.
Honestly, what would the over/under be today on the # of Brad Lidge saves this year? May be in the 70's for crying out loud.
Can't imagine what the David Wright's of the world & other NL East players thought this morning when they heard the news. Ruben Amaro brings Xmas home 11 days early this year!!
Thank you to the Yankee fans that spit on Lee's wife - you made the decision that much easier.

Great rotation on paper. Let the season(s) show how dominant they are.

i'd be concerned if your closer was getting 70+ saves... that either means the offense sucks or the pitching turns out to be not that good.bluehenbillk wrote:Man I love this!! Re: phiLEEdelphia! Cliff Lee Agrees To Return To PhilLEEs
Lets assume the Phillies win 100 games... having 70-80% of those wins come by 3 runs or less isnt that impressive.... Hell you take the wins... and winning 100 certainly means the team is great,,, by that high a apercentage of saves suggests either the offense is lackluster... lots of 3-2, 2-1 games or the rotation doesnt hold up to its early billing lots of 8-7, 9-7 games.89Hen wrote:Wha?UNHWildCats wrote:i'd be concerned if your closer was getting 70+ saves... that either means the offense sucks or the pitching turns out to be not that good.
