I went to the W&M - GSU game with a group of William and Mary alums. After the game all they could talk about was how horrible the GSU fans were. I was with them all day... they didn't see or hear anything I didn't... and the GSU fans were perfectly normal. Yes, it must suck to walk out of your stadium with the GSU contingent chanting "overrated" at you. Yes, it would suck to sit on your hands all game while the GSU contingent is standing, cheering, and loud all game. But, I didn't see anything horrific. In their case... and I'd imagine in the case of the letter writer... it's sour grapes.

How am I contradicting? The Montana fans WERE great when I went out west...they bought me beers in bars, and told me about the best places to "get some action". And I was just pointing out that the fellow missed the part where I said I don't have a beef with GSU...and might have missed it purposely to better his argument against me...that doen't make me think he's a monster though. It is two totally different things, my trip to Montana and his reaction to my post.
Contradict much?

You made a good civilized post here...and your point is well taken by me. I AM too sensitive, and that's something I need to work on. My girl tells me that all the time!
BTW...how do you delete your own post? I'm rather new to the board, and I am still learning how to do things on it.

Just curious Woffordgrad94 - were you at Newark for the 2003 semifinal (which btw was the toughest team we faced all playoffs) - if so what were your thoughts about that crowd?

I seem to recall a similar sternly-worded letter after the Wofford @ JMU game in 2008.

But here's the thing...if you try to fight him, you have not only reduced yourself to his level, but you might get ganged up on and put into the hospital (or even killed). And if you go to security, he will deny doing it...and it's you and your kid's word against his. Fortunately, I have always insisted on protection and have not made any kids so I don't have to worry about this kind of thing.

Drinking at games is illegal now?
Once you get past High School Football you know that the atmosphere is a "grown up" atmosphere. There are many college kids starting their adult journey. That means there is alcohol, young fella's doing dumb shit and swearing, 20 yr. old girls occasionally flashing a tit if you're lucky, and many other things that this kind of an environment provides.
There are also many alumnus and older people at the games as well. It is not a fucking daycare center and if you have kids and you are taking them into this sort of environment then please don't use them as some emotional lightning rod. I don't give a fuck that you have kids and bring them to the game. I will have my fun in the same ways that I always have.
Now if I were the author I would have known that. I however would have immediately with no forethought had someone take the kids out of the way and then took to punching the fucking saliva out of the dude with the problem. This would be done in spite of being outnumbered or anything other possible barriers.
Getting your ass kicked is much less shameful then letting that sort of thing happen if it did indeed happen. You let the perpetrator know that there are indeed consequences the next time he has the idea to pull this sort of stunt and you have made society a better place by handing that lesson out.

Wofford fans - grow a sack - and don't get invaded at your own home game.
However, fear not, the few GSU traveling fans will be sure to get a Philadelphia-area welcome on Saturday, especially as they walk out of the Tub with their tails between their legs watching us walk off with the goalposts.

Wofford fans may just be too sensitive. I remember something like this written to our local paper from a Wofford fan a few years ago.

Sorry but spitting on my daughter would have brought the ass whipping of all ass whippings on that dudes head. Cannot believe you let him get away with that.
You want my guns? Come take them.
Re: Letter to Spartanburg paper
If any of this is true GSU fans should be better behaved this Saturday. Security at Delaware Stadium has harassed a lowly trumpet playing alum the past two games and generally played Gestapo on anyone having even sober fun. Maybe we should copy the old Vet and put in a muni-court below the stands to welcome our Southern Brethren?

This is a guy/or gal whose liberal arts education taught them that the pen is mightier than the sword. Since their football team failed to defeat Georgia Southern, they figured they would libel the GSU fans to win a moral victory. What a small person.
Re: Letter to Spartanburg paper
I've never had a problem taking my young kids to "enemy" stadiums for college football games (such as to JMU) - never had a problem. Boisterous fans sure, but never been afraid to root for the Hens. I would not however take my kids to an away NFL game...
And yes, if someone spit on my kid there'd be a major fight in the stands - never seen that happen though (spitting on a kid that is)... You just don't let that go...

Re: Letter to Spartanburg paper
Jelly makes a good point. Even so, GSU certainly has some very churlish fans, much as I hate to say it. And the vast majority of them are students and younger folks. I've noticed that opposing team's that just meet the traveling contingent of GSU fans are usually very complimentary, but those who come to Statesboro (visitors have to sit on the same side as the students) or those who are at a game with a large student presence (there were a good many students in S'burg) usually have the most complaints.

Re: Letter to Spartanburg paper
I remember using Ziploc bags full of JD or Beam back in my G-W days on an occasion or two, especially if the weather was cold, to enhance my beverage.
Bottom line, every team on any level has fans who are total ass holes, and when you add copious amounts of alcohol to the mix, the resulting behavior becomes even more crude and intolerable.
However, if I had a kid and it got spit on like that, whether it was one or fifty GSU fans, some ass would have been kicked, and what few teeth the inbred had left in his mouth before he spat would have been sent down his throat.

Re: Letter to Spartanburg paper
From watching videos of the GSU-Wofford game I see some of these rednecks brought flagpoles into the stadium. Just a word to our southern brethren - the security at the Tub this year has been ramped up out of control - you can't bring in a backpack or a trumpet - there's no way they'd let a redneck with a flagpole inside. You'll just have to use it for the tailgate like the rest of us.

Re: Letter to Spartanburg paper
The one thing I will agree with is we were smuggling in beers/flasks/mini bottles by the truckload. A couple of students had one of those new Coors Light fridge taps in with them. That was a nice touch I thought.
Re: Letter to Spartanburg paper
And if you're going to smuggle beer in, make sure it's a Delaware-made craft brew. We have plenty to choose from. If they see a national brand of pisswater, it will be confiscated.bluehenbillk wrote:From watching videos of the GSU-Wofford game I see some of these rednecks brought flagpoles into the stadium.
