Well, he did attempt a pass - he couldn't help it that the Ohio St defender got flagged for pass interference. And other than that, he was just busy scoring a TD with his legs. A GSU fan should be okay with a QB running the ball in for a TD, no?

You're about to see the difference between an NFL caliber QB and a QB whose an athlete. You may hit Pat all day long, you may make some plays on him, the dude will never lose his cool. He just doesn't get rattled. If a 100,000 + Ohio State fans couldn't get to him, the GSU line certainly won't either.
If Devlin isn't an athlete, then he's in really big trouble.
"NFL caliber" or not, when the QB is put under pressure, they will make mistakes. If that weren't the case no QB in the NFL would ever throw an interception.

But he did attempt a pass against OSU. The call was pass interference. Tisk, tisk, tisk. 163.8 QB rating that year @ PSU and they have over 100k EVER game. He'll do fine.

He can move around the pocket and scramble just fine. The other poster was referring to the QB being an athlete first and QB second (ala Vick at Va Tech and the Falcons before he learned to play the QB position with the Eagles). Devlin will do just fine.

Absolutely not, but since he has had a total of 5 rushing TD's in 2 years at UD (and only 1 this season), that is something I'm not too worried about.

No what you should be worried about is a UD defense that has given up 5 rushing TDs all season.

Exactly...just like when we did the comparison between Flacco and AE, I was doing the same between Devlin and DP...Of course you have to be an athlete to play QB at this level. Flacco and Devlin are NFL Qb's, AE and DP are straight stud athletes that relied on that to perform at such a high level at the QB position...however, unlike AE, DP seems to get shaky when things aren't going his way.

Not really. There are countless historical references to prove that statistic irrelevant.
UD's defense only gives up an average of 99 yards per game, but I honestly hope you don't think that will be the case on Saturday.

Again, I think Devlin is the difference. Delaware's run defense is good and, as long as their defensive coordinator isn't clueless about defending the triple option (*cough* *cough* Kraig Paulson *cough* *cough*), they should contain the Eagle offense. Georgia Southern's decided advantage in special teams & their current hot streak should make this close, though.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- Delaware

        Running Backs - (push)

        Receivers/TEs - Delaware

        Offensive Line - (push)

        Defensive Line - Georgia Southern

        Linebackers --- (push)

        Secondary ---- Delaware

        Kicking ------ Georgia Southern

        Punting ------ Georgia Southern

        Return Teams - Georgia Southern

        Kickoffs ------ Georgia Southern

          • Georgia Southern 17-24 Delaware

Appaholic...why so mad? We'll go through the same thing next year after Pat leaves that you went through this year after AE...the difference is we'll be sensible about it and not make light of losing such a great player...I'm not saying you specifically, but there were plenty of App fans who said that App would be fine without AE...didn't happen. DP like Sasek is a big drop off.

Either way...we're most likely going to come out on top. :thumb:
I'm not really that mad. And I find it comical that you consider DP a "huge drop off", yet I believe he was 2nd team All-American while Devlin was 3rd team. So our disappointing QB is still better than your messiah? :geek:

Shame on you Appa.

You know damn good and well that just playing in the A-10 makes Devlin automatically better than Presley no matter what the riff raff who makes up those All-American lists says. :tothehand:

Agree. And how dare we question whether Devlin can handle pressure. As we've seen in the past, Devlin knows how to handle pressure....transfer :coffee:

To be honest, I think you're team was highly inflated in both rankings and All-American honors. Can you honestly say after Saturday that you defense should have had three All-Americans? Come on. DP is not in the same league as AE...he isn't. There is no way that he could keep Appy in the Michigan game, never mind beat them. AE was a freak...DP is a very good athlete who hasn't shown yet he has that killer instinct that AE had. When things are going well, he's aces. when they aren't, he's average.

As far as Pat and DP go, it's the same arguement we had about Joe and AE. AE won a ton of awards, two time WP winner, and can't get on the field in Carolina. He's a better athlete than Joe, no question...just like DP is a better Athlete than Pat...there just not better QB's. End of story.

As far as not being allowed to question whether or not Pat will get rattled, fire away. Nobody minds that. But have some facts or reasons or examples of when he joked imploded or gave up. A poster commented that the GSU D-line will rattle him. That's an opinion. The fact that Ohio State, in Ohio State, when they were #1, didn't rattle him is a fact. Saying that he's never seen a defense like GSU's before is an opinion. One you yourself could argue as false after seeing Nova's D. GSU does have a very good defense, that's a fact. Delaware has gone against very good defense, like UNH and won...Fact. Facts please Appyholic.

Fact:

UNH 37 sacks - 16.5 allowed per game
GSU 25 sacks - 17.9 allowed per game

Devlin vs UNH 27/38 for 261 2 TDs 0 Ints

I disagree with regard to rankings, but agree with regard to defense. No way that defense has 3 AA's IMO either. But, as individual performers (akin to your argument about QB v athlete), I guess enough people thought they were worthy. And I agree, DP isn't AE....and Devlin isn't Flacco, nor will he ever be.

Frankly, I could care less about their post-college success. But what advantage did being a better pure QB give Flacco & UD vs App? We embarrassed you guys on national TV. Speaking of drop offs, what exactly has UD accomplished with Devlin? I mean, that is so much more impressive than DP & App? We won our 6th consecutive conf championship & made the playoffs. Devlin didn't even lead you to a conference championship....

Fact: UD didn't win their conference
Fact: Devlin couldn't handle pressure at FBS Penn St, so he transferred to FCS Delaware.
Fact: DP 2nd team All-American, Devlin 3rd team All-American

Basically, unless UD, led by Devlin, win the NC or at the very least beat GSU, my facts are kicking your theories ass....

Well, technically, UD did win their conference - the CAA doesn't differentiate between co-champions so W&M and UD are, factually, co champions.

As for handling pressure, I don't recall Devlin cracking under any pressure - he left for playing time. Such is life at Penn St where Joe Pa plays upperclassmen almost as a rule. But again, factually, he didn't leave due to pressure.

So that makes you 0 for 2 with facts. Just calling things facts doesn't make them so. Just saying.

1) We play in a much harder conference than you as seen by the massacre that occurred at the rock by a CAA team that barely made the playoffs. You were home, with all your All-Americans, and you got killed. The inflated polls and the awards are still a hangover from the three year run you had. It'll start to fade though. It happens.

2) Go on a PSU message board and see how thrilled their fans are that Joe Pa selected Clark over Pat. It had nothing to do with pressure or folding...no more than Joe did at Pitt when Tyler Palko was their QB. Where's Palko, where's Joe.

3) DP shouldn't have been a 2nd team All-American over Pat. Pat missed three games. That's not DP's problem but after watching Saturday it's pretty obvious whose is the better choice.

4) Your entire arguement again is base on IF Pat doesn't win the NC...so let me throw that back to you...what IF he does. Basically, unless UD, led by Devlin, win the NC or at the very least beat GSU, my facts are kicking your theories ass....This doesn't fly.
