Interesting read, thanks. Perhaps someone should tell all those lawyers in congress about it.Ivytalk wrote:Nice try, "smart" guy. I learned a lot from it as well. Ackerman's point is that the 20th Amendment was intended to limit lame-duck activity to true emergencies. Congress hasn't distinguished itself this month, that's for sure.kalm wrote:Interesting read, thanks. Perhaps someone should tell all those lawyers in congress about it.Ivytalk wrote:

But there has to be some sort of transitional period. Move to Washington, hire staff's, clean the office, collect the damage deposit, etc.Appaholic wrote: As a conservative, I gotta agree with DBack on this one. If the constitutionally mandated term is until Jan 3, they should pass legislation (ie; do their job) up to that date. Or we need to amend the constitution to instruct terms begin day after election & end day of election.![]()

Since determining what constitutes a national emergency requiring a lame duck session is somewhat subjective, it seems the founders had it right to begin with.

Just that you have an almost Pavlovian adverse reaction whenever the word Christian appears on a thread. There are liberal Protestants who agree with your views on gay rights. Respect those people.dbackjon wrote:How so? DeMint is the one with a single issue, Christmas...Ivytalk wrote:

Actually, the folks who run the National Council of Churches are quite explicit about that point.kalm wrote:And they're about as vocal as the peaceful Muslims.Ivytalk wrote:

Not at all. I do have an adversion to bigoted fame-whores who pretend to be Christian in order to garner votes.

DeMint is right on a host of issues. and he is one of the few politicians that sticks to his principles on fiscal issues such as not asking for earmarks even when a host of SC politicians are begging him to do so. But like most politicians he suffers from foot in mouth disease and like most conservative politicians he turns my stomach on social issues.
