You don't? So then do y'all only have 5 titles? Because the original poster was claiming 6...

Are you trying to argue that y'all been claiming 5 this whole thread? :dunce:

Cal Poly must have shared the National Championship that year with Elon...& Georgia too, I think....

We have six national championships. There's no disputing that.

It appears you now want to make a different argument that Delaware does not have six I-AA national championships. Yes, that is correct.

Do you know how to read? If so, maybe go back over this thread once more.

The '78 and '79 I-AA playoffs consisted on just FOUR teams each year.. the DII playoffs.. which contained most of the schools that would later become part of I-AA.. consisted of sixteen teams. Four vs sixteen.. wonder who had the easier road to a title???

Sure, if you're doing a simple championship count, I think Harvard bitch slaps us all in FCS!

But I think what most of the Delaware fans were saying is that we've played (to the utmost of our ability to do so - see 78-79 for the transition asterix) at the level just below the big guys since before WWII.

I understand why all the ASU fans would like to discard UD's 3 titles in the '70's. Appy played football then too, just not very well, as they went 52-53-1 in the '70's. Meanwhile Delaware went 94-23-1 with 3 championships. Guess you can't balme the Appy boys for trying to prtend that football records didn't count unitl the advent of I-AA. :D

So, with this thread we have successfully added an asterix to Delaware's championship claim?

Not the the fact that we have six national championships.

But if you want to get into the terminology asterix, we can play that game too. Appy State has two FCS championships and one I-AA championship.

No, we just want credit to be applied to other teams using the UD rationale. Harvard has 12 national titles, so they're the dominant program in FCS at the moment. Then NDSU, then GSU & UD are tied for 4th place for a couple of weeks....App St not in the running at all.....

& UD hasn't won an FCS championship yet, so App is still better than UD. Simple! I know I could justify my claim.

Fair enough. You guys are clearly the most successful team of the 2005-2007 era. :D

It's a good thing Georgia Southern went away from their bread and butter scheme for a few years so you guys could feel good about yourselves.

...agree...and it's good you have a chance to win now that EWU tripped Nova up.

It's always a good idea to start crowning a champion in a sport you invented before anyone else gets good at it. Props to Princeton.

And to whoever won in 1871, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT, BABY!!!

The SWAC and MEAC were two of the strongest conferences in I-AA in 1979. You tell me which was better.

AWESOME STUFF!! Let's compare ancient decades of football!! This will surely be fun. Woo Hoo

Let's start with the 1930's
App State - 68-23-7
Delaware - 31-45-8

Woo hoo! We're totally superior based on our 1930's dominance. Yay us!! :thumb:

Guess you can't balme the Delaware boys for trying to prtend that football records didn't count unitl the 1940's. :D
