What is it with the blowouts today? Blowouts in the college bowls and blowouts in the Cali HS bowls, too. Egad! Heck, the only games today that weren't blowouts were the D-I playoffs and the D-II, D-III, and NAIA Championship games....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Fresno State got WORKED by a directional Illinois school from possibly the weakest conference in I-A.
So much for the MWC's big signature addition from the WAC.

Ain't that the truth. And we actually thought for a minute that joining the WAC full-time would be a good thing? Seeing that score, I wouldn't be surprised if the average BSC team would beat Fresneck.AZGrizFan wrote:Fresno State got WORKED by a directional Illinois school from possibly the weakest conference in I-A.

Of course, in their defense, NIU had the added emotion of losing Jerry Kill. They wanted to send him out a winner, and did they ever.

I don't believe Jerry was on the sidelines. I distinctly heard the announcers discussing how it was the NIU coach's first game as head coach.SuperHornet wrote:Ain't that the truth. Louisville had to come from behind to nip Southern Miss, 31-28 in the Beef O'Brady's Bowl.

FWIW, I'm 3-1 so far in bowl picks. Waiting for Boise to put the wood to Utah tonight

Same old, same old. Some teams show up to play these games, some show up to party. Not much really on the line in these things, nobody remembers in a few years who played in these stinkers, let alone who won. Both conferences/schools get the same pay out regardless who wins.

I don't think I've watched a minute of any bowl game so far. Looking at most of the matchups I don't know if that is going to change until TCU plays Wisconsin.

SDSU beat Navy 35-14. Now my pick'em's probably ruined by now.

Since the BCS championship game era, the other bowls really have no meaning unless your school is participating. This is what the NCAA feared if a playoff system was installed.

SDSU dominated. The most impressive aspect was the Aztecs ability to limit Navy on the ground. Note that Hillman is a freshman this season and 4 of the 5 starting OL for SDSU return next season. There is college football once again in San Diego...finally...bonarae wrote:SDSU beat Navy 35-14. Now my pick'em's probably ruined by now.

Oh and Hawaii got destroyed by Tulsa in Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl 62-35. The new look of the MWC is looking better and better everyday. Everyone say hello to the WAC II.

I don't get that arguement, early bowls have never really mattered, I didn't even really pay attention to pre-New Year's Eve Bowls until FSU started making them.Gil Dobie wrote:Since the BCS championship game era, the other bowls really have no meaning unless your school is participating. Maybe it's just me, I used to watch all the bowls, and there used to be office pools on the bowl games, now it's just the championship game that anyone watches.tampajag wrote:I don't get that arguement, early bowls have never really mattered, I didn't even really pay attention to pre-New Year's Eve Bowls until FSU started making them.Gil Dobie wrote:Since the BCS championship game era, the other bowls really have no meaning unless your school is participating. Well, BCS changed everything how the FBS works.tampajag wrote: I don't get that arguement, early bowls have never really mattered, I didn't even really pay attention to pre-New Year's Eve Bowls until FSU started making them.Under the old system the only games that mattered were the New Year's Bowls.

Re: 2010/2011 Bowl Games Thread
really? more than how the old system did? You mean like how the #3 team got to win a title because #1 and #2 couldn't play even though they lost to #1 at the end of the season.('97 Sugar Bowl). Yes I'm still bitter about that whipping.bonarae wrote:Well, BCS changed everything how the FBS works.tampajag wrote: I don't get that arguement, early bowls have never really mattered, I didn't even really pay attention to pre-New Year's Eve Bowls until FSU started making them.Under the old system the only games that mattered were the New Year's Bowls.

I'm not saying the BCS is perfect or even good. But it's better than what they had.Although that's like saying it's better to be peed on by R.Kelly instead of a homeless man.
