The Eagles-Vikes game tonight should be a spectacle. It's already coming down hard here and the worst snow and wind aren't supposed to be coming through until around kickoff. Winds are forecast to be gusting over 40 mph with accumulations of up to three inches per hour. WOO HOO!

As an Eagles fan, I'm concerned that this neutralizes our speed advantage, but I think it helps Vick and McCoy's running. Should be interesting to watch tonight.

The problem is, the City of Philadelphia went under a state of emergency at 2pm. The NFL and Eagles were pretty much forced to postpone when that happened.

The city was hit by more than 30 inches of snow last year the night before the Eagles played the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field on Dec. 20, 2009. The city and the Eagles cleared the streets and the stadium in time for the game -- but the snow had stopped for three hours before the game.

The postponement did not sit well with Gov. Ed Rendell, who told KYW-TV he did "not at all" agree with the decision.

"This is football; football's played in bad weather," Rendell said. "I think the fans would have gotten there, the subways work and the major arteries are still open, and other fans would have stayed home -- but you play football regardless of the weather."

The governor, who does football commentaries after Eagles games, also said the decision would be a "serious handicap" for the Eagles and was unfair to the team.

"I, for one, was looking forward to sitting in the stands throughout the snow and seeing an old-time football game," Rendell said.

Asked what Vince Lombardi would say about the decision, Rendell said "he'd be mocking us."

It was asinine for the Eagles to agree to have the game postponed, as it hurts their chances of getting the #2 seed and a bye. That is HUGE. Plus, most fans would love to see a game played in the snow. NFL is run by a bunch of pussies

or if they just declared a "snow emergency".

If it is the later, while they may advise against travel, they generally don't "forbid" it. At least not around here.
Here "snow emergency" pretty much just means that cars shouldn't be parked on certain streets, so that they can plow them more effectively.

The fact is that both teams were in the city, all essential personnel could get to the stadium to play the game. There was zero reason not to play the game.

I dont have a problem with games being pushed back due to extreme circumstances... this storms predictions were in the range of making it the third largest snowfall storm in Philadelphia history... Not just a common everyday storm.

On NBC Nightly News they played a recording of his ranting that made me fall out of my chair. Essentially he said if this happened in China the Chinese would still make it to the game and they would walk if they had to. Not only would they walk but they would be doing some calculus on the way.

Whenever discussing PA Gov (and former Philly Mayor) Ed Rendell, you have to take what he says about the Eagles with a grain of salt, because he is a huge, huge Eagles fan. He is one of the regular, weekly hosts of the Eagles post-game show on Comcast SportsNet Philly, not from Harrisburg but in the studio in South Philly. He becomes very populist when discussing the Eagles.

Still, I doubt the result would have been any different if he was still Mayor when this all went down. It sounds like the NFL was moving this to Tuesday, regardless of what Mike Nutter was saying.

Why would they have to give refunds, other than to save face with some fans?

The game would have been played on time, at the correct venue. It's not like the Vikings situation where the game had to be moved to a different city, then a different venue that doesn't hold as many people.

Obviously the ECB goverment forces don't trust the ECB drivers as much as the Minnesota/Iowa Contigent for the game last week at TCF Stadium that was played in snow.
