SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

SIX players FCS or below made the Pro Bowl, and half of them will start. And the others should be deemed to be starters but aren't because of anti-special-teams bias. Congrats to Bethune-Cookman, which leads the way in FCS with TWO picks.

For the AFC:

DE Robert Mathis IND (AL A&M) STARTS
K Billy Cundiff BAL (Drake)
KR Marc Mariani TEN (Montana)

For the NFC:

ST Eric Weems ATL (B-C)
FS Nick Collins GB (B-C) STARTS
G Jahri Evans NO (Bloomsburg, D-II) STARTS

Thanks to Mr. T for this link. This is a speaker-phone call from Jeff Fisher to Mariani telling him about his selection. It's freaking classic.

MM today broke the Titans' (/Oilers') all-time season record for combined punt/kickoff return yardage. His total season's yardage also ranks in the top 20 in NFL history in this category.

You go, MM!

I loved White Shoes. So now we need a nickname for MM. We can get it started and maybe it will catch on. That would be cool :thumb:

Many Montana fans call him "Miracle Marc".

He provided more than a few of those for the Griz, not the least of which was a 96-yard kickoff return for a TD to spark the astounding comeback from 27 down against South Dakota State in 2009, which ended in a run of 40 straight Griz points and a 61-48 win.

Wash-Griz, usually the loudest stadium in FCS, was nearly a tomb when he went back to receive that kickoff with the Griz down 41-14. As he prepared to return the kickoff, he is reputed to have yelled up into the crowd, "We're not gonna lose this f-cking game!!!"

SDSU managed one more TD, and then it was all Griz. As someone on the Jackrabbits' message board plaintively posted as Mariani methodically tore them apart, "Can't anybody cover this guy?"

Short answer: No, there wasn't.

Just hoping he gets a chance to show the Titans what he can do at receiver next year.

I'm happy he did, and even happier that I got his Gridiron/Panini rookie card!
