Obama to Pursue Corporate Tax Cuts

Post by kalm »

What a commie.

Obama Likely to Pursue Corporate-Tax Cut, Way to Pay for It
All signs point to President Barack Obama pursuing far-reaching changes to the corporate income tax, seeking to lower one of the highest statutory corporate-tax rates in the world by eliminating deductions, credits and loopholes.

Treasury tax technicians are sifting through options, CEOs are buzzing and the president has voiced his druthers: "We would be very interested," he said in October, "in finding ways to lower the corporate-tax rate so that companies that are operating overseas can so do effectively and aren't put at a competitive disadvantage." In a recent interview with National Public Radio, Mr. Obama talked about "a conversation over the next year" aimed at "simplifying the system, hopefully lowering rates, broadening the base." ...

That's funny - I thought people in favor of high corporate taxes were in favor of them because they believe corporations aren't paying enough, if any taxes currently? If that's the case, what's the big hub-bub with lowering the rate? If we're not getting tax revenues now, it would seem that we'd still be getting nothing with lower rates.

Corporations don't pay ANY taxes. Their customers pay them. It's built into the price of the goods and services they sell. When we wise up and remove the self imposed tariff on US goods we may be able to compete with the rest of the world.

Stuff needs to be payed for and corporations will charge what customers are willing to pay. It's the price of doing business in a fully industrialized nation that nobody wants to pay for.

Seems to me that deductions, credits and loopholes lower he tax rate since they give the corporation an "out" for a portion of it's taxes. Getting rid of them would actually raise the rate since corporations would now have to pay the full amount.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong (or I just don't understand it) but my guess is that Obama wants to simplify the tax code by getting rid of deductions etc. and by lowering the base rate. It is unclear what the net effect on taxes would be.

Same thing Kennedy wanted to do with the personal income taxes. We might have the highest "rates" but the effective rate corporations pay is way down the list. Closing loopholes will make cuts revenue neutral, at least in theory.

Lowering rates and broadening the base has a neutral revenue effect but it will make it a more even playing field for US multinational corporations.

How does Obama's desire in eliminating corporate tax deductions square up with his insistence on allowing corporations to write off capital purchases next year that he just championed? Is this a bait and switch, or am I missing something?

At this rate, Obama will run for re-election in 2012 as a Republican. That's the change we've been waiting for!

Now, that's a substantive response.

Krauthammer's sh!t is in a pile most of the time, and the fact that a liberal can only reply with a couple of weak insults pretty much proves it.

Yeah, Sidney, that surely proves it. I can see the headlines now - EXTRA! EXTRA! Krauthammer insulted by Houndawg, confims liberal plot for world domination!

Krauthammer is a garden-variety ideologue who sees communist plots behind every tree. Better one-liners and a little more personality than most of them.

Nothing coming from college commie coffee klatches is good - with the possible exception of some occasional pussy.

What Obama wants is to get re-elected, destroy traditional America and replace it with his Marxist-inspired utopic vision.

If Obama is forced to join the Congress and simplify the tax system, eliminate deductions and lower rates, that would be a good thing! ...and probably delay and reduce his ability to destroy traditional America! :thumb:

I hate to defend the libs, but dawg is not a worthy lib opponent. Although he is typical in his mendacity and relentless apologies for communist doctrine, deeds and ideas, he is usually missing a few cards (even more than the average lib) due to the brain damage from his youth and the sad fact that - even today - he is often saturated with mind altering substances.

Yes, Cid, I have descended down into the pigsh!t with the pigs, but my words are true, nonetheless.
