WikiLeaks China

Post by JMU DJ »

While secrets from WikiLeaks were splashed all over the American newspapers, I couldn’t help but wonder: What if China had a WikiLeaker and we could see what its embassy in Washington was reporting about America? I suspect the cable would read like this:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/01/opini ... .html?_r=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There's even a nice little blurb about AZgriz's second favorite senator!

I saw Friedman's article in the Intl Herald Tribune, which is the Asian version of the NYT. Having read many of his columns, I'd say that there's nothing in this article that he hasn't written or espoused before.

In other words, Friedman could have saved a lot of ink just writing "the Chinese would agree with my opinions".

We have to have the ability to report back to the boss in an honest, candid manner. If we cannot do that then we cannot practice diplomacy on the same field with everyone else.

This is why the kid who downloaded all of this should (and will) spend the rest of his life in solitary with all the other spies.

Not sure what you're talking about. Do you mean the spies who work for us, or the American traitors like Aldritch Ames?

Do some homework. Spies are a necessary eveil. Even with all of our mistakes, the United States foreign policy is as pure as the driven snow compared to other current regimes and historical empires.

Of course we must aspire to a higher standard! But we should not adopt a suicidal standard. We Americans have gone through several historical periods when we try to exist without spies, or by using rules of engagement so much higher than our enemies that the result has been gross policy failure and higher numbers of dead innocents.

Not Assange, dawg. He should simply be assassinated, by the authorization of an executive order.

The "kid who downloaded all the stuff" and leaked it to Assange is Bradley Manning, an Army private. He is the one who should be executed for treason.

 My bad, sorry.

If we're going to kill somebody for treason lets start with Jonathan Pollard, and whoever outed Valerie Plame. Lot more damage done in those cases.

Still waiting to see something from Manning that is dangerous as opposed to embarrassing.

To your point, none of us know all the relevant details. However, unlike the Pollard and Manning cases, the issues are much less clear cut in the Plame affair. Reading the testimonies of the various participants creates more heat and confusion than light.

You do not like Bush/Cheney/Libby because they responded to mid-level bureaucrats who were actively conducting partisan attacks on their policies.

It is the professional bureaucrat's job to privately advise but in the end salute authority, not to undermine authority.

It is our job as citizens, and the job of elected officials - not the job of bureaucrats - to conduct partisan and public critiques and to publicly object to administration policies and their implementation.

Assasinate Assange? For what? Playing an audio tape of a junior high girl's locker room?

C'mon, native...that is ridiculous. If we targeted every hacker and supporter of free speech we'd be too busy to catch the actual bad guys. :ohno:

On other thing...keep Assange alive for a while...at least until he releases the info on the banks. The real targets for assasination will be the clowns in the financial institutions. Then we can take out the crooked politicians and business folks who helped them.

Just think of all the work for the future univeristy sociologists. They'll be able to study the contrast between the poor minorities shooting each other for chump change and crack while the rich white guys shoot each other for millions and billions. :thumb:
